More proof of lower crime.

It's still nothing to be proud of but South Africa has slipped down to now have the 9the highest murder rate of countries that report statistics in the world. All improvements should be recognised as Rome wasn't built in a day and we could all use some postive reinforcement that we're on the right track.

List of countries murder rates.

Remember that in reality the mass of undereporting and accurate statitics in Africa, Asia and South America means we're probably a lot lower than this. Interestingly enough take a look through the list and look to see how many African countries even report statistics, and how regularly. Hardly any ! So 9th itself is still very misleading.

I only mention this to make a bet. I guarantee you that in the next two weeks I will be able to find at least 10 mentions stating as a fact that South Africa has the highest murder rate in the world ammongst the posters of S.A.S and the South African blogsphere I frequent. Something that was true for a short time 6 years ago but the stigma refuses to die down despite our mass improvement. I can make this bet in full confidence because they're a bunch of bullshitters who can't help themselves. If they had any dignity they would come out and admit this, and recreate their arguments from there without this trump card. Any takers ?

I think a nice way to look at this is to ask yourself.

Would I live in Jamaica ?

If you're honestly thinking "Yes , i'd live there without worrying too much." Then you've got some distortions in your mind about the reality of anything happening to you in south Africa. You stand a 20% higher chance of getting murdered there than here.

And look at the map showing the criem rate...much more than half africa has no statistics.

Hey dude, before you get too happy please read the sentence right above the diagram.

Homicide demographics are affected by changes in trauma care, leading to changed lethality of violent assaults, so the homicide rate may not necessarily indicate the overall level of societal violence.
They may also be underreported for political reasons.

I really wish that was true.

But relax, take a deep breath and read the disclaimer by the people that supplied you with those stats.

I didn't make that shit up and neither did I deny or agree with anything.

They(the creators of the article who supplied you with those stats) said, oh, incidentally these stats might be totally wrong, so be cautious when conjecturing from them.

Now wipe that froth from your mouth, you are starting to resemble the clowns you are trying to debunk.

I love how you fucks suddenly become such critical thinking skeptics when the stats don't support your predictions. The stats are good enough when they were calling us the highest murders in the world...where was the out cry about their validity then ?

Fucking please. Spare me.
