The myth of S.A as a net food importer.

A story doing the rounds of the wolf crying right in South Africa is that S.A has now become a new food importer. That's to say we now import more food than export. Actually like almost everything (very, very close to everything) they're speaking nonsense. In fact we're still by far a new food exporter and the trend is growing.

From here : http://www.southafrica.info/business/trade/export/agriculture-030212.htm

3 February 2012

South Africa remains a net a food exporter, selling 30% more agricultural goods abroad than it imported in 2010, according to the latest South Africa Survey, published last month by the SA Institute of Race Relations.

According to the survey by the Johannesburg-based institute, South Africa's agricultural exports grew by 10% between 2008 and 2010, with total agricultural exports amounting to US$6.8-billion in 2010. During the same period, agricultural imports increased by just less than 1% and amounted to $5.2-billion.

Agricultural exports stood at 5% of South Africa's total exports in 2010, with agricultural imports accounting for 2% of total imports.

The institute's analysis was based on data supplied by the Foreign Agricultural Service at the United States Department of Agriculture.
Also S.A food exports are still on the rise.

Overseas demand for South African agricultural products grew 30% between 2008 and 2010, while agricultural imports dropped by nearly one percent.
South Africa is selling 30% more agricultural goods abroad than it imported in 2010, a study revealed on Wednesday.

“Agricultural exports grew by 10% between 2008 and 2010, with total agricultural exports amounting to $6.8-billion [about R52-billion],” the South African Institute of Race Relations said.
During the same period, agricultural imports increased by just less than a percentage to $5.2-billion (about R39-billion), it added.

Agricultural exports accounted for 5% of South Africa’s total exports in 2010, while agricultural imports accounted for 2%.

The analysis was based on information supplied by the foreign agricultural service in the United States’ agriculture department.
Please not the past few years have also seen the lowest levels of far attacks/murders.

So things are as good for the S.a agricultural industry if not better than they have ever been. Double Whammy bullshitters !!

Lamola has blood on his hands

AfriForum today appealed to the ANC to urgently intervene to stop the racist statements in its own ranks. The civil rights organisation also announced that it is intensifying its campaign against farm murders. This follows after acting ANCYL leader, Ronald Lamola, yesterday said in Durban that "they" would act as violently as during a war to take farms from white farmers.

Last night, Johan and Gloudine van Rensburg were attacked on their farm near Baltimore in Limpopo. Johan was shot and killed in bed and Gloudine was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

On 5 June 2012, at a press conference in Centurion, Lamola also referred to the violent expropriation of land. That same day a 29-year old woman, Arina Muller was murdered on their smallholding just outside Centurion.

AfriForum's Deputy CEO, Ernst Roets said that AfriForum Youth had already filed criminal charges against Lamola and that AfriForum would intensify its campaign against farm murders.

"Lamola has blood on his hands. For as long as the ANC watches on while farmers are being killed and hate speech is rampant in its ranks, the ANC, too, has blood on its hands," Roets said. The ANCYL recently also declared that "white capital" was their main enemy.

AfriForum is busy with preparations for national protest action against farm murders. "The public would have to join this campaign in their numbers to force government to declare farm murders a priority crime and to institute specialist units for rural safety. AfriForum will, at the same time, launch an awareness campaign, with its investigating unit, to assist farmers with advice on securing their farms," Roets said.

How much more of this shit are farmers expected to take?

Land reform: DA to lay charges against Lamola

Johannesburg - Criminal charges will be laid against ANC Youth League deputy president Ronald Lamola over his comments on land reform, DA MPL Anthony Benadie said on Friday.

He said he would lay charges of incitement to violence against Lamola on Sunday at 09:30, at the Joubert Street police station in Middelburg.

"The recklessness of this statement at a time when a high number of violent crimes are taking place on Mpumalanga farms cannot be tolerated," Benadie said in a statement.

"Mr Lamola obviously wants to carry on where Julius Malema left off. It would do him good to learn his lesson sooner rather than later," said Benadie.

Lamola called for the expropriation of land without compensation at the Durban University of Technology on Tuesday.

An act as forceful as war

"We need an act as forceful as war to bring it [the land] back to the Africans," he said.

The Freedom Front Plus also condemned the remarks, saying they were creating conflict and polarisation in SA.

"The silence of the senior ANC leadership, especially President [Jacob] Zuma, about this is very disconcerting and makes the ANC an accomplice to this incitement to violence," spokesperson Pieter Groenewald said in a statement.

"The farmers have no reason to apologise for possessing their land and have always fed the people of this country."

Groenewald said some communities had resorted to taking the law into their own hands by executing criminals and government should not be surprised if the same happened as a result of farm murders.

The ANCYL is taking its views on land appropriation to the ANC's national policy conference in Midrand next week.

Blood on his hands

Earlier this week, civil rights lobby group AfriForum bemoaned Lamola's remarks.

Deputy CEO Ernst Roets said Lamola had blood on his hands.

"For as long as the ANC watches on while farmers are being killed and hate speech is rampant in its ranks, the ANC, too, has blood on its hands," said Roets.

In a statement on Friday the ANCYL said it was meeting with AfriForum to discuss its stance on land reform.

"The meeting is expected to speak to a future platform for co-existence and sharing of land, underpinned by urgent, decisive, and radical economic transformation, to benefit South Africa's black majority," the ANCYL said.

According to a report, Henry Geldenhuys, deputy president of the Transvaal Agricultural Union, said Lamola was inciting violence.

"There's no option left for the farmers but to prepare for a war."

Hanno van Rensburg, son of murdered farmer Johan van Rensburg, 77, blamed the ANCYL for Wednesday's crime in which his mother Gloudien, 65, was also critically wounded, according to a Beeld newspaper report.

"The ANC Youth League say they want to take our land by violent means and declare war. If they want war, they must come. I'll fucking shoot them. My family's blood has been spilt on this land," Van Rensburg was quoted as saying.

It could just be that Rooster has lost interest in the melktert-munching moaners. I couldn't give a stuff anymore myself.

To contradict myself: I've been supplying Mike Smith with a couple of hard facts to counter his dream of a 100% white, 100% Afrikaans speaking South Africa by next year. But I think the truth hurts too much for facts to penetrate.

Dachshund, I hear you. All this blog-fighting certainly must claim its toll on one's emotional well-being.
