District 9

A reader forced my eyes upon this the other day....

Needless to say my eyes feel raped. If this movie is not some kind of joke I think I myself might emmigrate.

Et Tu Peter Jackson ? I paid to watch all three lord of the rings and even that horrible King Kong remake ! And now you do this to me ? This is just some evil Kiwi pre tri nations psychological attempt to dishearted South Africa isn't it ? Seems he actually believes in the film , because far from attempting to distance himself from it , he's taking to to comic-con personally.

"District 9" however has gotten 21 million online previews and a massive viral marketing campaign by one of the world's largest movie distributers "Sony" , so there must be something to it right ? Bullshit....remember "snakes on a plane?"

This is going to be humilating. I love South Africa but we're not good at making films, not to mention low budget sci fi films. Stick to rugby and cricket I say. This can only end up in millions of people going to the theaters to see this "original film" and coming out laughing and high fiving each other at what dumbasses South Africans are. Bad , bad idea. This thing will be the next "Plan 9 from outer space".

Neill Blomkamp who wrote and directed this must get Deported and never allowed back.

Edit : Neill Blomkamp actually seems to know a little about making films. Check out this :

Also the whole film has been done in a mocumentary style , which if pulled off could be awesome.

The thing is the movie was produced by a massive producer and disributed and marketed by Sony. Lack of money is not an issue here and the movie has massive hype. It's probably the mst hyped up sci -fi film in ages. The gaming geeks have latched onto this as some kind of haloesque cult film. Millions of people will watch it and millions of people will laugh when they do.

I don't really know what pete jakson was thinking putting his name to this...this has fail written all over it. No one is going to relate to afrikaans law enforcers fighting aliens in soweto...I mean for fuck sakes !

Was reading some of the fanboy sites than this film has...hey are popping up everywhere. It seems people are excited because it's suppossed to be done in a documentary style. Which I read that I thought for a brief moment that it might be slightly interesting if they pulled it off. Then reality smacked me in the face....the main character is called kobus.

I think what the director has done is taken real interviews with people talking about illegal aliens and then made it as if they're talking about aliens. Watch here for evidence of my thoughts...

Clever little quirky idea actually..way to add some very real realism into a bullshit scenario.

I bet the hero of the movie having a name like Kobus will see you taking the best seat at the premiere, Rooster.

ha ha ha...I've been waiting 6 months for somebody to connect the dots and call me out for being a self hating afrikaaner. That's the closest someone has come to it yet.

Well it would be a change from always taking ourselves so seriously.

Stander is still the best SA film I have seen.

Actually, this might turn out to be a fantastic film. I think you should just wait and see...

Further, all the people in the film are actors. The film is a done in a mockumentary style. No-one was duped into believeing that they're positing on illegal immigrants...

Yeah. After watching cloverfield last night I got a sense of how the movie might turn out alright.

Look with Peter Jackson and Sony and the money they've put into the campaign , and Jackson taking the project to comic-con and owning it..it must have some element that's convinced a whole group of powerful in film people it's got some sort of mass appeal or originality. I'll reserve judgement for now.
