New stat slap down...

Paydirt !!!

Of all my stat slap downs none have proven quite as conclusive as this to demonstrate the neurotic fear of being murdered in South Africa. You see I've hit on the idea of comparing suicide rates in various countries with the murder rate in South Africa. Surely if in another country you are more likely to kill yourself than someone else is likely to do it in South Africa it makes a pretty strong argument against murder being widespread. It also makes a pretty goo argument against that perfect expat life some of you so delusionally believe in.

Now I'm talking to you white South Africans who make up my readership. A while back I presented a load of evidence from myself and other intellectual giants to show that the murder rate for white south africans was 12 in 100 000. Now it occured to me that if I could show that simply living in another country presented you with a higher chance of suicide than being murdered that might make a pretty strong point. Little did I know how amazingly strong my findings would prove to be. Now I'm not being callous to suicide, In fact I know a South African who committed suicide but never one who was murdered. And god rest his soul.

Take from the world health orginisations officials stats 2003....

http://www.who.int/mental_health/prevention/suicide/suiciderates/en/

I'm going to compare the countries South Africans mostly emmigrate to.

The united kingom

11.8

What this means is you have just about equal chance of killing yourself in the U.K of someone else doing it in South Africa. Now think about this....if South Africa is especially dangerous then the U.K must be freaking especially shit. Either that or U.K suicide is very rare and so is S.A murder.

Australia

21.2

Yeah. Almost double the chance of commiting suicide if you live in Australia than being murdered in South Africa.

New Zealand

23.7

Yeah. Double the chance.

Canada

19.5

Uhuh.

United states of America

17.6

Yup.

And that's not counting other earth hell holes. Examples that stand out are..

The ukraine ..where you stand a 5 times higher chance of killing yourself than being murdered in South Africa. Or Russia (7 times). Latvia (5 times). Lithuania (7 times)..and christ ...so many more.

Now if that doesn't make you think....well....you're a neurotic depressed fuck and probably thinking about killing yourself. You might want to send me an email and let me treat you.

ps ..here is a newer list found after I wrote the article.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_rate

South Africa's suicide rate (when not splip up by demographic) is 10 per 100 000. 50th world wide and above all 10 of the most sought after "expat destinations" South Africans move to. So you're more likely to know someone who commited suicide than was murered. And it's also proven a gross minority of suicides are done by white South Africans ...watering the pool down even more.

going broke?

He urged MPs to “rescue” the SABC by using the powers the Broadcasting Amendment Act gave them to remove the board.

“The SABC must be rescued and it must be rebuilt as a public broadcaster that serves all the citizens of our country, and not narrow factional or party political objectives,” said Nzimande.

His call came as the SABC’s acting group chief executive, Gab Mampone, disclosed that the government had been asked for nearly R2-billion to pull the SABC back from the brink.

Citing rising broadcasting costs and a dip in advertising revenue, Mampone said that if the SABC did not receive the bailout it would need about R6-billion from the government over the next five years to fulfil its mandate.

The SABC could not sustain the monthly shortfalls it was experiencing or continue cutting back, he said.

Millions of rands are owed to suppliers and independent producers, putting the future of popular programmes in question.

Three board members, Christine Qunta, Peter Vundla and Fadila Lagadien, have resigned since March, citing interference and “problems of leadership” in the board.

Yesterday, the SABC denied reports that its board was embroiled in a dispute with unions over wage demands that had led to threats to disrupt coverage of the Confederations Cup.

Spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said the board had met yesterday to formulate a wage offer that would be made to the unions today.

“If the threats of a strike or a blackout are being made by union members, they are being irresponsible because as far as we are concerned, there won’t be any blackout or strike,” Kganyago said.

Kganyago could not give details of the corporation’s request for a R2bn bailout by the government.

“Let us agree that we are doing something (about the financial crisis).

“We are engaging the government and the Treasury on this, but there has been no conclusion yet.”

« Predictions for 2009The Nature of the Beast - Part III »Festive season crime stats ‘concerning’ /Quietest Christmas for KZN
The first edited piece tells the public that the crime stats in Natal are a disgrace, and the second, that it’s been a quiet Christmas.

It must be that we have become so used to high crime stats that 1722 assaults, 111 gunshot wounds, 493 stabbings and 282 rapes in 18 days are normal.

**************

A total of 1722 people were assaulted in KwaZulu-Natal and 111 people sustained gunshot wounds over the first 18 days of December, the provincial health department said.

Another 493 people had been stabbed, and 282 raped (49 being child victims).

heres the story i found it ?

Another 493 people had been stabbed, and 282 raped (49 being child victims).

Provincial health MEC Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni said she was extremely concerned about these figures, which had been incurred over the festive season.

"These statistics indicate a violent society that continues to violate women and girls. The department also notes with concern the role of alcohol and drugs in promoting these unsocial behaviours."

She said violence could not only lead to death but had effects on health - including brain injuries, bruises and scalds, chronic pain syndromes, and irritable bowel syndrome
