...I am not above critique.
I found the following comment quite stimulating. To show I'm not scared to assimulate new information i'm going to post it up here.
Rooster, the reason why your blog is struggling with decent debate is because your arrogance is off-putting. Anybody who says anything critical of SA gets slammed by you.
You say you don't, but your comments come across as watering down of anything that's negative or bad.
It doesn't matter how wonderful you think SA is, 18000 murders a year is not good enough. 90000 hijackings a year is not good enough. 40000 rapes per year is unacceptable. And that's only reported crimes.
You can't compare to other countries either. Comparisons don't help when you are dealing with lives. We're not talking about anywhere else. We're talking about here, right now.
At the same time, extremists like at the SA Sucks blog shouldn't be taken seriously. So they're not worth the discussion.
Be a bit more balanced in your defence of SA. And by that I don't mean "Yes, SA has problems" or "SA isn't perfect". and then carry on with how fantastic our elephants and sunsets are.
The reason why millions of locals emigrate is because of two things: safety and affirmative action. Studies have shown this.
My friend's car was stolen. My other friend's car was also stolen. My family members have been hijacked at gun-point. A number of my extended family and friends have been raped and murdered. My car's been broken into more times than I care to count. I've helped neighbours chase criminals who broke into their home at 2 in the morning. More than one friend of mine has been shot at but survived.
And that's just in my circle.
The problem is that most South Africans can relate to that, to some degree.
With only 30% of all crimes being stopped in its tracks, crime is therefore not under control.
Crime is out of control.
Is SA falling apart? No, not at all.
But let's be balanced about our debating.
Firstly I can not relate. The entire region I live in South Africa could not relate , and I dare say anywhere else but Joburg could relate. That's my only gripe with the above post.
I do not think I have ever tried to hide the fact that South Africa has problems. I've tried to put the problems in context and offer a sociological perspective. I have fought against the idea that South Africa is in decline and that it's somehow related to the inevitable genetics of black people. I realise at times I can be aloof and obnoxious, but certainly at heart I'm a humanist. I believe that the inherent goodness of mankind will always bloom if he is offered the opportunity to live his life free of the crutches of crippling poverty. I also honestly believe the country has a fantastic future if we can just for a moment get over ourselves and show some empathy to the plight of one another. So this little post of humility is my gesture of compromise....
.....what's yours ?

How can you say that "the entire region" where you live can not relate? Do you live in a white upperclass villa somewhere?
Have you gone door to door, asking if the masses in your region can relate? If not, then don't speak on behalf of those people.
Just turn on the TV. Watch the news. Read the crime stories in your community paper.
You are obviously white and have never lived in a township. You are being insensitive by watering down the far-reaching severity of crime.
I live in a middle classed area out side of Gauteng. I have work colleuges and university friends from all over the country. I never hear this version of South Africa other than from people who live in and around Joburg.
Oh don't feed me that !
You white people use tragedy that happens 98% of the time to push forward your bullshit agenda of trying to show that South Africa was better when you were in charage ! How fucking insulting to my intelligence ! To sit there and pretend you care about black people being victims of crime ! You love every moment of it ! you couldn't give a damn , as long as it gives you something to make you feel like you did nothing bad during apartheid !
Where was the outcry about black murder then by you white people ? Huh ??? Where was the outcry about the government then ? Fucking bullshitters...don't come here and lecture me about insensitivity...you use the tragedy of black people everyday for your own selfish gains....so do me a favour and fuck off.
Tell me, do you lock your car doors when you drive? And do you lock your doors in your home, when you go to bed at night?
I hope you don't. Since you can't relate, and since nobody in your region can relate, you'll be a hypocrite if you do the above.
There is no need for your kind of abuse.
You are an insensitive denialist like Mbeki, who waters down everything that is serious.
Viva Zuma!
You haven't answered the questions about locking your doors...
Stop being so abusive. You're showing your white "I'm sorry for apartheid, please don't kill me" agenda.
Nope. I don't lock my car doors when I drive. Who the hell does that ? What if you have an accident and can't get out ? That's like 200 times more likely to happen than you get murdered. You have a 40-1 chance of dying in a car crash before you die in a murder .....and I don't know...but I reckon people survive 1 in 5 car crashes...you do the maths....to lock your doors when you drive would be insane !!!!
I sometimes lock my house doors , sometimes not...I don't think about that stuff much. In the same way as I don't think about meteors hitting me wheil I sleep.
Nonsense. You're lying now. You DO lock your home doors at night. You probably even have an alarm system, or you stay in a complex or gated community.
Put it this way...I'm not going to give that information of where I live , because I'm more scared of some racist idiot trying to find me that any "bogeyman" black criminals. But I ensure you I do not always lock my doors. Even if I did...so does everyone in 90% of the United States of america. What's the big deal ?
I'm not going to be baited into giving personal information...I'm sorry...nice try though. Think what you want, the more wild speculation about me the happier I am.
You Asked
What evidence would it take for to admit that the new South Africa is a success in the aspects of violent crime , socio-economical development , education and economy ?
So lets deal with violent crime first.
According to the SAPS the following acts are defined as crimes of violence.
Murder
Attempted murder
Culpable homicide
Assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm
Common assault
Robbery with aggravating circumstances
Common robbery
Rape
Indecent assault
Kidnapping
Abduction
Neglect and ill-treatment of children
Public violence
Carjacking (Sub Category of Robbery Aggravating)
Truck hijacking (Sub Category of Robbery Aggravating)
Bank robbery (Sub Category of Robbery Aggravating)
Robbery of cash in transit (Sub Category of Robbery Aggravating)
House robbery (Sub Category of Robbery Aggravating)
Business robbery (Sub Category of Robbery Aggravating)
The total number of these crimes in 1994 was 658,344.
The total number of the same crimes today is 735,249
An increase of 76905 or 11.7%.
Therefore I conclude that violent crime is worse today than it was in 1994
Second - Socio economic development.
According to research by the SA Labour and Development Research Unit in Cape Town, unemployment has risen from 26% wanting work in 1994 to 41% in 2008
However there is a technical difference between wanting and seeking work. The official stats in 1994 for those seeking work was 13% compared to 26% in 2008.
I therefore conclude that unemployment is higher today than it was in 1994 and that the socio economic situation has worsened.
Thirdly - Education
According to the SAIRR (South African Institute for Race Relations) There is some improvement for overall pass rate.
55% in 1994 to 65% in 2007.
However it should be pointed out that in 1994 in order to pass matric a candidate needed to write 6 subjects and get a minimum 40% for SG subjects and 45% for HG subjects in order to receive a senior certificate.
In 2008 a candidate need only sit 5 subjects and can pass with with a 33% mark.
Interestingly, the % of candidates who got university exemption in 1994 was 18% In 2008 that figure has dropped to 15%
The % of whites candidates who got UE in 1994 was 42% in 2008 that has risen to 52%
The % of Indian candidates who got UE in 1994 was 50% in 2008 that has risen to 55%
The % of Black candidates who got UE in 1994 was 12% in 2008 that has dropped to 10%
It is therefore fair to say that education has seen some limited success in certain areas but it would appear that those who needed to benefit the most in a post 1994 SA do not seem to have derived much benefit or achieved success.
Lastly you raise the issue of the economy.
There can be no denying that SA enjoyed good growth post 1994.
However the global economy also enjoyed good growth. South Africa was not unique in this respect.
The global markets are now in recession and so is the South African economy.
SA has a Prime lending rate of 15.5%. The higest it has been in 5 years and chances seem high that it will be raised next month a further 20 points. This in an economy where approximately 70% of households in SA are currently excluded from access to housing finance.
Add to this the monthly voluntarily company liquidations are the highest since 1990 and monthly total company liquidations are the 3rd highest since 1994.
Lastly SA is seeing inflation at around 13.5% and rising.
Again I point out that some of this is as a result of global influences and shifts. The question is. " Is the SA economy positioned to ride this out?
Given it most recent slide against the £, $ and Y I suspect it may be hard hit and may take a decade to recover.
Hope this is a sufficiently researched response to your challenge.
I would be most interested to see any secondary research info that you may have.
Awesome..a response !!
firstly i'm going to make a quick response and if you're not satisfied then i'll deal with it over the weekend , as we can all agree it is Friday and we should have better things to do.
Crime : Murder and attempted murder ...down almost 40% ....you add in culpable homicide...please look that up before you add it to violent crime and throw in a lot of random social crimes that do not apply and still only manage to show a slight overall (in real numbers) increase. Factor in population growth and you will find that even by your very liberl definition of "violent crime" you come very short.
2 : social development : Are you really trying to pass up "seeking employment" as a more valid stat as "actual employment" ? Who are you trying to fool ?Helen Keller ? Get real man , the south African employment rate has dropped dramatically ! Not to mention the fact that millions of people have access to watere , housing , electricity , health care etc etc etc....please...pull the other one ! What dishonest bullshit !!!
3 : education.
Walked around South Africa lately ? Seen all those little black and white kids in school uniforms , acting polite and calling you 'sir" ? Seen all the intergration in university ? Seen all the imprevment in matric results ?
Want to be honest and mention that when you have huge new amounts of candidates actually writing matric that of course percenttage wise fewer will get exemptions , especially when the gross majority of those are black? How dishonest can you get ???
Economy ?
You've not pointed out one interesting or significant thing. You've shown fluctuations since 1994...but dont nothing even close to making , what let's face it, would be a laughable statement , that south Africa has not oomed since 1994. So I don't see what i have to defend against.
F for fail.
You asked for a response.
You have one that has used statistical research collected from reputable sources.
Where is your research? Where is your statistical data to back up your claims?
Instead all we get is churlish ranting and jibber jabber.
We've not disagreed on your stats, just you're cherry picking of data and dishonest portrayal and conclusions drawn from them. Come on...who you trying to fool ? Come back with something less insulting to the intelligence.
Don't bother responding to Rooster. All he ever does is water down stats and slam any kind of criticism and makes himself self righteous.
Rooster is just a little immature denialist who never ever cites credible sources. The reason is because he doesn't want to have his stats debunked by another source that has varying info.
Rooster then throws in "F for fail" and "pwned" and thinks he is really clever and mature and funny by doing that.
You see, Rooster's strategy is an old one: presents an argument that he knows he can win, and then waits for responses so that he can slate them. You'll notice that he never links or cites his sources.
Rooster is a white young adult who lives in a gates community, in Gauteng. He tries to come across as being non-white and he has no integrity at all. One minute he claims "free speech" and the next minute he threatens to censor and even does censor and even rallies to have other blogs shut down.
Debating with someone who says "F for fail" or "pwned", is like debating with a banana.
Do not entertain him. You'll only make him believe that he is the cool kid.
this blog sucks big time!!! like a couple of children squabbling over sweets!
oh well, back to trolling the blogs for intelligent dialogue.
Where is your empirical research to prove the contrary?
Come back with something less insulting to the intelligence.
here you go peeps - the report from the horses mouth - (not expats, awb, or any other crap)

chew on that fat mukkers
Rooster lives on a floating island in the sky above Jozi, known as Delusion Island (the government is still working on changing the name). The island is trapped in a time warp and they are still stuck in the 90's. Rooster lives on a farm there with a river called DeNile that runs through it.

wow are the rest of the world finally waking up
What Rooster is doing is known as "etitio principii", or "begging the question", which is a logical fallacy. The conclusion of his argument is implicitly assumed in his premises. (He already has decided on his conclusion, and therefore will not accept anything else.)
The moment you argue with Rooster is the moment you start your debate at a disadvantage.
Rosster is not proposing a balanced debate. He is setting up those with differing opinions, so that he can body slam them.
You might as well have an intellectual argument with a toothpick.
U wanted proof of SA going down the drain.

and another thing - don't come with the crap that the DA would fudge the figures 'cause they're the opposition
Interesting papaer at http://www.frontline.org.za/articles/murder_southafrica.doc
rooster - seeing you say most of your readers are pissed off ex-pats why don't you put this on your blog?
Its a free "flag counter" and will show where your hits (or lack of) come from. just don't expect it to fill up too soon!
Time to keep up with the tech to prove "your stats"
http://www.flagcounter.com/index.html
@ Rooster
I suggest you take this on board.
Research can confirm what you were already sure of.
Often people have firm beliefs about particular issues, but when they have to argue their case they lack reliable information to back up their beliefs.
Research helps to clarify and strengthen beliefs especially in the face of opposition and doubt from others. Whilst research can confirm your views, it is important that the researcher remains open-minded and impartial even when the results fail to confirm your views.
Research can give your views and arguments substance.
Research produces hard facts that could support your arguments and beliefs.
Research gives you new information.
Research often throws up other facts which you may not have been aware of that helps to strengthen, or even change, your arguments and beliefs. These facts make it easier to plan programmes and ensure that interventions are effective.
Well good morning. Certainly you've all woken up quite peppy this morning.
aaaah...where to begin.
Yes , the challenge does "beg the question" ...In a reverse way I'm asking people what it would take to admit that South Africa had improved. But that's based on the following premise that I know and can verify in every way that it has improved. No "Latin" can save you from this reality.
Now to the claims that I haven't provided stats....firstly you've not made any claims that contradict mine using stats. When you make an absurd statement that contradicts the empherical evidence in front of you , it becomes your prerogative to validate it. If I insist there is a pink unicorn in my tummy , it's up to me to prove it.
Likewise if you propose South Africa has gotten worse since 1994 , despite the huge body of evidence that can show violent crime is down 28.8% (go down 3 or 4 posts , I posted the stats up there) , the economy has enjoy 30 quarters of growth at record rates , there are more people completing tertiary education and high school per capita than before , and 10 million people with access to clean water/ electricy/houses. So when you propose it's gotten worse your statement flies in the face of the evidence....so you prove it.
I've got 71 posts to back up my argument , you post a few cherry pic stats and take them out of context and pretend they represent something they don't and then you try and take the high ground ? Please ! Pull the other one. Stop pandering your arguments to the stupid masses and present something that even you , not to mention me could actually find credible. Present something like that and I'll take the time to debunk with with the necessary stats and data.
To the guy who posted the value of the currency to represent economic prowess...go take an economics course. By that logic south africa would be wealthier than Japan , Korea and half of Europea. Well actually we are wealthier than half of europe but you know what I mean.
In fact you're doing a great deal of harm to your cause to mention currency...the rand is one of the top 10 traded currenies in the world.
I wrote about my readers already and provided a typically map here---
http://killallwhitey.blogspot.com/2008/08/sa-expats.html
Sadly you must admit there tends to be a strong correlation between the types of people who frequent these "south africa is hell" sites and stupidity.
Exhibit A : Koos .
Rooster said "you have a 40-1 chance of dying in a car crash before you die in a murder"
Research conducted by Semira Mohammed, of the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research shows that South Africa has a population of about 47-million people and according to figures from November 2007, a vehicle population of nine-million.
"More than 18 000 people died, around 7 000 people were permanently disabled and 40 000 seriously injured on South African roads annually.
"International comparisons indicated that South Africa fell far outside the world's best practices with a rate of 30,15 fatalities per 100 000 people," she said.
According to her statistics, the United States was next on the list with 14,5 fatalities per 100 000 people
By my estimate then you have less of a chance of dying in a car crash as you have of being murdered.
Once again Rooster makes unsubstantiated claims without having done the research.
Rooster,
If you want to be taken seriously and recruit ambassadors for your cause you have to work with facts not fanciful thinking. Otherwise how can we believe in you?
"Now to the claims that I haven't provided stats....firstly you've not made any claims that contradict mine using stats. When you make an absurd statement that contradicts the empherical evidence in front of you , it becomes your prerogative to validate it. If I insist there is a pink unicorn in my tummy , it's up to me to prove it. "
------------------
I didn't bother reading the rest of your gobbly-goop. If you make a statement, provide evidence, using credible sources. It's not up to the recipient to counter your statement with supporting evidence.
That's not how intellectual arguments work.
I'm not in favour of SA on the decline, nor am I in favour of SA on the rise. I'm simply suggesting a balanced argument, which you seem unable to provide.
Once again, make a statement, and follow it up with a credible source. Thereafter, I will respond accordingly.
Otherwise, I'll have more fun arguing with the KKK.
I wrote a whole post on he car thing. Don't be lazy...first read the argument. i used exactly the same stats as you , but I factored in the ammount of people who own/drive a car daily. Go search August , find it and allow yourself the humility to eat shit. Muppet.
Anon at 3: 16. You should have read the rest , because that's exactly what I talk about.
Rooster, make a statement and provide your source. I'm not going to run after you every time you make claims. Just add links and sources to your statements. It's not that difficult. Actually, it's easier for you to cite your sources, than for me to run around your blog hunting down references and sources.
You obviously don't understand the art of debating.
Listen, you're not the first ever person to have done the logic module in a philosophy 101 course , so drop the condescending bullshit. I very thoroughtly explained that my claims are supported by all the available empherical evidence and statistics. Anyone doubting that is in effect making an absurd claim. It becomes their prerogative to provide alternative data to verifiy and validate their world view.
If you insist that something is a dog when all the available evidence says it's an elephant , it's your job to prove otherwise.
I don't care if you don't believe me about the murder rate decreasing...it's widely published and I'll linked to it various times on this blog. Go find it or shut up about it. Stop spitting the dummy and insisting it's my prerogative to pander to your ignorance.
Talking about making claims ...what exactly else do you have issue with ? What stats do you need ? Christ...what exactly am I supposed to prove ? Talk about begging the question.
-----
Bullshit. If you say a dog is a dog, then prove it. If I disagree with you, I must provide evidence to support my argument.
Once again, I will not run after you. You're not that important.
So. The moment you make any claims, without providing your sources, is the moment you talk crap.
So shut the fuck up, or cite your sources in your claims.
Here, I'll help you along, since you don't understand how to debate.
------------
"Firstly I can not relate. The entire region I live in South Africa could not relate , and I dare say anywhere else but Joburg could relate "
------------
Please provide evidence for your claim that the "entire region" "could" not relate.
Otherwise state that it's your opinion, and nothing more.
And here we go...another sign of a medoicre mind : Holding tightly to generilisations.
Whether your mind is too small to assume that obviously I don't mean every single person that is your problem. Does that really require explaining ?
Now let's take your question to its furtherst logical conclusion. You're implying then that the people around me in fact all share an experience of having known various murdered people, been victims of robberies and crimes ? Agreed ? Prove it. See ? We can both play your silly game.
ps ; Note on generilisations. You do realise that a pretty good definition of intelligence is the ability to notice patterns, causations and correlations ? That is the file your world into neat little manageable and interlinked ideas...ie : generlisations ?
Rooster says
"Likewise if you propose South Africa has gotten worse since 1994 , despite the huge body of evidence that can show violent crime is down 28.8%"
Once again I must correct you. ONLY murder is down 28.8% according to official SAPS stats, NOT violent crime as a whole.
SAPS are the ones who have defined violent crime as listed by anon 19 Sept 09.55
I have checked this out and can verify that this is correct.
What is violent crime?
Sibusiso Masuku distinguishes between two types of violent crime:
Interpersonal violent crime – “murder, attempted murder, serious and common assaults, and rape”; and
Violent property crime – “all categories of robbery, i.e. robbery with aggravating circumstances (armed robbery, car hijacking etc.) and common robbery” (PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE: Addressing violent crime in South Africa, Institute for Security Studies. Published in SA Crime Quarterly No 2, November 2002).
Therefore by SAPS definition of violent crime the incidence of violent crime is up 11.7% from 1994
On the issue of the "official SAPS stats" please consider the following excerpt from a draft paper.
A recent report by the Medical Research Council (MRC) states that while police crime statistics show there were 18487 murders in 2007/08, the MRC puts the figure at 27684. The MRC's estimate is close to the figure from the Department of Home Affairs, which is 27563. This is a third more murders than reported by the SAPS. A discrepancy of nearly 10,000 murders is more than a ”margin of error”.
"Now let's take your question to its furtherst logical conclusion. You're implying then that the people around me in fact all share an experience of having known various murdered people, been victims of robberies and crimes ? Agreed ? Prove it. See ? We can both play your silly game."
--------
You'd lose every case in court, if you were a lawyer.
1. Rooster makes a claim.
2. He provides no evidence.
3. When asked for evidence, he acts like a child, and asks for the recipient to prove his claim false.
Ha ha ha. Okay then.
All kinds of robbery are an example of violent crime ? You stand by that ? Shut the fuck up. I'm talking about murder, rape and attempted murder.
If there are more incidents of fights in shabeens (or "aggravated assault"is really of no fucking concern to any white south african running a website , and has no place being mixed in the equation. It's dishonest of you to even attempt it. If you can't make your case without taking things out of context then don't bother.
And consider this , if the S.A.P.S
were lying about stats , the entire process of death reporting from those that issue death certificates , to the insurance industry , international watchdogs , hospitals , medical boards etc would all have to be in on it. Totally fucking conspiracy bullshit on your part devoid of anything that could be mistaken for evidence.
Last warning..stop trying to bullshit your way past the issue and deal in real evidence...no cooking or cherry picking the data or taking things out of context or playing semantics. Either come up with something honest and valid or you get no response from me. Stop wasting my time.
Or here's another take on it.
1)Rooster makes a challenge for people to refute his claims.
2)People who daily make the opposite claim , can not refute his claims by showing evidence for their claims.
3) Rooster demonstrates that they are blowhards and bullshitters.
Getting it yet sparky ?
"1)Rooster makes a challenge for people to refute his claims.
2)People who daily make the opposite claim , can not refute his claims by showing evidence for their claims.
3) Rooster demonstrates that they are blowhards and bullshitters."
-------
Whatever you say, big boy. As long as it makes you happy. :-)
wikipedia says it so it must be true. Get real dickhead , we're specifically talking about the types of crimes that S.A.S and the likes pretend is widespread.
If all this esculating violent crime is not murder and the likes , then I want to see S.A.S tomorrow come out and say "oh by the way , murder and attempted murder are down , but you know..there are more ar fights , so that's what we're angry about"
fucking bullshit and you know it.
Bar fights.
Ok..so if we are talking about your definition , south africa is going to hell because people have more money for alcohol and have more bar fights....???
Loses a bit of the "we are a warzone and victims of genocide" sting doesn't it ?
no , no ..let's try and keep things within the realm of sanity here ok sport ?
"Ok..so if we are talking about your definition , south africa is going to hell because people have more money for alcohol and have more bar fights....???
Loses a bit of the "we are a warzone and victims of genocide" sting doesn't it ? "
-----------------
What the fuck are you on about? I've said none of that crap. Stop developing your own stories, and stop putting words in my mouth.
Rooster the libertarian has become Rooster the dictator.
Ha ha ha.
Rooster, you're an immature little white boy who think he is God. You hold your opinion in such high regard, that you refuse to accept the validity of credible sources that challenge your sweeping claims.
I'm not opposing you, you moron. I'm helping you make your arguments stronger, by encouraging you to cite sources and references.
You've refused on all accounts, and you've gone so far as to create your own adaption of how an intelligent argument works.
If that's what you do, then you can't be taken seriously, and your efforts become disappointing.
I've not once said that SA is falling apart. I've also not said that it is flying high.
But I use logic and citations to help me along.
You use neither.
hahahaha! rooster has been denied!
and resorts to insulting. hahahaha
Rooster you fucking gay. You need to watch what you say and who you insult. The way people write and the 'unique' expressions they use are mirrored in their speech. You may be hiding behind an alias for now but sooner rather than later someone is gonna recognise you by this and then the word wil be out. We didnt fall for the 'Im from joburg' thing either. Liberals in the Transvaal are rarer than rooster teeth. People like you are found in Claremont, Pinelands, Bergvliet, Rondebosch, etc. Never anywhere else. I personally am looking forward to hearing the word.
It's been fun kids , but unless you offer me something that isn't going in the same circles I'm afraid I'm going to have to give "lost" my attention for the next hour.
Ps : When did i ever say I was from Jhb ? Screw that shit hole.
You're right about one thing. I do kind of think I am god.
who gives a shit about if it is better or not, we are living in interesting times and now with kakmbeki resigning it will be interesting what happens now.
i am hoping for a anc split and for some black on black violence, since there is nothing interesting on t.v this month.
so lets say that rooster is correct (not) and start a new argument.
The decline of the country as of September 2008 until 2010, we can now all start on a even keel and watch what happens over the next 2 years.
off to go celebrate the possible split in the anc and the hope that molema becomes vice president.
good day to all
I'm also for a weakened A.N.C by the way. I'd rather prefer to to come by people voting strong opposition though. Certainly the people always need to keep their leaders on their toes.
so rooster for interest sake do you think that zuma/ancyl/communist party coalition in power will be good for the country?
look mbeki was useless, but there might be a power vacuum now since zuma cannot stand as acting prez and that a rushed election will hurt the anc more than the opposition parties, and will the situation not arise that after next years elections that the main thing on the new government will have their own interest at heart firstly before they care for the "sheep" that voted for them?
since mbeki's ego must be hurt, especially with the thinly veiled threat in assassinating his bodyguard a couple of days ago.
and then should the country go into decline can you still defend them on your blogg? or will it rather become a you vs sas pissing contest
I hate it when white south africans say "mbeki" was bad. We are so lucky to have had these last years of hard line capatlistic mbeki rhetoric. It doesn't take much imagination to come up with far worse scenarios had he not been in power.
Zuma is a populist. The most dangerous kind of politician. However i don't see the government changing economic course , and that's the most important thing. Beyond fiscal policy and filtering taxes to the needy government can do what the hell they like for all I care. governments world wide are corrupt and as long as they let the free market reign we should consider ourselves lucky.Certainly we're powerless to do anything about it so long as the majority of people remain desperate and uneducated. Our only help is the free market capitalism allowing the people to rise up to a position to not be easily manipulayed and lead by empty promises and rhetoric.
the perception of mbeki as being useless was brought on by his own personal responses to all that has happened, his legacy will not be remembered for the things he supposedly did but by the events of the last few weeks accumulating with his getting fired.
i agree with you on the economics since i couldn't give a rats ass about who or what as long as i can pay my bond/feed myself etc.
but communist party will demand their slice of the ruling pie for supporting zuma and they are not exactly pro free trade.
and i made no mention of race nor did i claim to be speaking on behalf of the white community, so lets keep this non-race related if you dont mind.
if mbeki did so good then by rights he should have more support from inside his party and followers, but he is weak as a person as his fight with zuma has proven and his eventual firing by the people who helped him get to power in the first place.sorry for disjointed thought process but i am busy watching enews
Is Mbeki the lesser of the 2 evils?
Better the devil you know.
Same could be said of Blair / Brown
Bush / McCann .................
communist party blame trevor for the state of the economy so if he goes then we are fucked for sure.
how about a da/mbeki coalition as opposition to the anc now that will be interesting.
should more tax payers leave the country (all races)over this how will the zuma government fill their coffers?
tell you know if trevor and tito leave now that will kill this country economically overnight
Hey Rooster
Seems the whole "is SA better place" discussion has gone off the boil.
Having read all the comments on that issue and the to & fro of opinion re stats etc
Conclusion
Rooster got KO'd in the 12 round.
Rooster you really didn't put up any convincing argument just the same rubbish you usually sprout.
Put your courage where your conviction lies and close the site.
It was beautiful the way you got stitched up.
I Loved it
DARFUR. Thabo Mbeki says only history can judge his legacy, and if history judges him critically then history is a racist. Speaking to journalists in Sudan where he is currently trying to negotiate a ceasefire between rival gangs of feral goatherds, Mbeki said that even if he were fired by the ANC he would walk away with his integrity and his pension intact.
The South African president faces an uncertain future after judge Chris "Chopper" Nicholson implicated Mbeki in a political conspiracy against ANC president Jacob Zuma, and many party stalwarts are calling for his head while having to explain to Julius Malema that they don't want Mbeki's actual head.
According to insiders the ANC has gone as far as saying that it wants to confiscate the presidential hairball.
The hairball, removed from the stomach of a cow, was bought by Mbeki from on online store of esoteric artifacts, and reportedly allows him to see the future and interpret current events.
An aide in the Presidency who asked to remain anonymous confirmed that the hairball is consulted almost daily.
"Mr Mbeki puts on a special wig, and then rubs the hairball against Essop Pahad's tummy, blows on it, and then presses it to his ear," he said.
He also confirmed that Mbeki's policies on Aids, xenophobia, education, crime prevention and weapons procurements were all suggested by the hairball.
Presidency staff have also confirmed that they have started shredding the 1.7 million pages of text Mbeki has written while in office.
According to the staffers the documents, mostly variations on a theme of paranoia, will be turned into confetti and rained down on Jacob Zuma when he enters the Presidency.
Meanwhile a spokesman for Mbeki said that the president would go about his peacekeeping duties untroubled by events in South Africa.
"Mr Mbeki remains fully focused on sorting out the Al-Haqadi grazing rights dispute here in Darfur," said Macduff Maponyane.
"He has always had the ability to blank out public opinion when he needs to, thanks largely to the fact that he does not particularly care what South Africans think, feel, or want."
According to Maponyane, Mbeki was confident that history would vindicate his actions as president, largely thanks to a new history textbook, written by Mbeki, that would prescribed in all South African schools next year.
and then should the country go into decline can you still defend the ruling party on your blogg? or will it rather become a you vs sas pissing contest?
PRETORIA. After Friday's court ruling that effectively prevents Jacob Zuma from being prosecuted for corruption, his supporters have confirmed that the judiciary is completely transformed and democratic. "On Friday morning the judiciary was a snake pit of racist conspirators," said spokesman Necklace Mpundu, "but on Friday afternoon it emerged as a revolutionary cadre."
Mpundu said he could not say exactly how the judiciary had transformed itself so completely in under four hours, but said that that favourable verdict for Zuma had helped.
However he warned that the justice system needed to remain vigilant.
"It is easy to be overrun by racist reactionaries," he said. "The justice system must always remember that it is just one counter-revolutionary verdict away from becoming an enemy of the people again."
Asked to define "counter-revolutionary", Mpundu said that it was a broad concept but that a useful yardstick for those not wanting to be counter-revolutionary would be to "not do, say or think anything that might in some way dim the celestial light that beams from every orifice of Comrade Jacob Zuma".
He added that if judges needed any help in arriving at democratic and revolutionary verdicts they should "always remember two unassailable facts".
"One, you are the pillars that hold up our Constitution. And two, we know where you live."
Meanwhile Zuma's closest allies say the verdict has left them no choice but to eject President Thabo Mbeki from office. Many were widely quoted in the weekend media as saying that Mbeki would either have to "fall on his sword, or be pushed onto it".
This view was enthusiastically echoed by ANC Youth League president Julius Malema this morning.
"Yes, Comrade Mbeki must be urged to fall on sword, or we will push him onto a sword.
"Or stab him with a spear.
"Or hit him with a rock.
"Metaphorically, of course."
However Malema added that if Mbeki did actually fall on a sword, the ANCYL could not be held responsible for his clumsiness
The focus of this blog has been to temper the hyperbole posted by S.A.S and the likes. Not to fellate the government. Can they do a better job ? Yes ! Should they do a better job ? Damn right !

ok fair enough having browsed the blog i must of misunderstood
even though i am leaning more to the right-wing i believe that we all have our right to voice our own opinions/beliefs
and welcome debate with you since we seem to be working towards the similar end - government to be accountable for their actions and to rule fairly over all of the population.
as long as you do not start calling me names I shall refrain from the same, and will gladly discuss a way forward for us all.
what ever we say to each other on this or any other blogg will not have any influence on government but we can at least be civil to each other and have open debate :)
"I hate it when white south africans say "mbeki" was bad."
- Rooster
So you don't hate it when indians say that? And coloureds?
Mbeki was not utter shit. But he certainly was pretty shit. He became like a lone ranger dictator, corrupted by power and unable to cope with criticism. And there could have been a better option than him, going into his second term. He had good macro-economic policies, but his global and foreign policies were questionable.
1. Mbeki should never have denied the link between HIV and AIDS. His info was given to him by his political advisers and "scientific" advisers. Info given to him by politcal advisers is not scientific, so they can't be ruled in. His "scientific" advisers, whoever they are, have been shown to be completely unscientific in their research, and have had their theories royally debunked by legitimate scientists who are not connected to anyone politically and have no underlying agendas other than finding facts. Mbeki should also never have publically said that he had "never personally known of anyone who died because of AIDS". (We all know that AIDS kills your system and that you die of other things. But most of SA is uneducated, and saying that was irresponsible.)
2. Mbeki should have never sacked Routledge, despite her illegal trip to Europe. There are loads of other MPs who have done far worse things than Routledge, and have never faced the hammer. Mbeki sacked Routledge because she is opposed to Manto's ridiculous denialist policies.
3. Mbeki should never have hidden behind Manto's policies. And Manto should never have sided with Rath, whose anti-ARV theories have been utterly debunked. Other than living a healthy lifestyle. Which everyone already knows.
4. Mbeki should never have denied the severity of crime in SA. 18000 murders per year, 40000 rapes per year, is very severe. Crime is not under control, and therefore is out of control. That is severe.
That's enough for now.
anon at 7: 41....he had nothing , so I offered nothing. But it's a free country to interpret things as you will.
"anon at 7: 41....he had nothing , so I offered nothing. But it's a free country to interpret things as you will."
Haahahah! Whatever you say. DOesn't matter what you say, you were owned.
Ok. I'm going to say this once politely. i'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt because the media did throw a fit of stupidity around this time.
Mbeki did not deny the link between h.i.v and aids. I wrote many posts about this issue. It is one very close to my heart and one I feel quite sure if you knew me you'd allocate a fair ammount of credibility towards me in this regard. What Mbeki said on Aids was groundbreaking and so right, and if anyone had paid attention instead of trying to take cheap political shots , there would be so many unecessary deaths avoided.
"Mbeki did not deny the link between h.i.v and aids. I wrote many posts about this issue. It is one very close to my heart and one I feel quite sure if you knew me you'd allocate a fair ammount of credibility towards me in this regard."
Sadly, you have a shit track record for citing sources, so I won't trust your "credibility". Please provide links to those blog posts.
"What Mbeki said on Aids was groundbreaking and so right, and if anyone had paid attention instead of trying to take cheap political shots , there would be so many unecessary deaths avoided."
Groundbreaking? From whose perspective? Certainly not the real scientists, other than a small group of denialists. In fact, you can read about how AIDS denialism cherry-picks its "research" here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIDS_denialism
Scientists know more than politicians.
If you don't believe me , that's your issue. If you're interested then look through the blog and find it for yourself.
"If you don't believe me , that's your issue. If you're interested then look through the blog and find it for yourself."
Take responsibility for your claims, man. Seriously. If you make a claim, support it with a reference. You're not fucking God. Come down off your gold throne. For the sake of discussion. What's wrong with you?
"Mbeki did not deny the link between h.i.v and aids"
1. "President Mbeki defended a small group of dissident scientists who claim that AIDS is not caused by HIV." (source)
2. He sacked Routledge, who opposed Manto's stance.
3. He has NEVER admitted than HIV causes AIDS.
4. He defends those who say there is no link.
5. He says AIDS is the creation of a white racist mindset.
Yes, Mbeki has denied the link.
Here is what mbeki says about aids.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nY_Pu2gvI-4
That's part 1 ...follow it through to part 3.
He's no aids denialist. He's someone trying to enforce the scientific method. Without me coming out and spelling it for you , once again if you knew me you'd know i'm certainly the last person to be an "aids denialist".
Why I am lazy because you won't search the blog to find the relevant posts ? I wrote the fucking stuff and if yo want to read it then find it. Christ , why must i serve it all up on a silver platter.
Don't get me wrong I appreciate all of your input , but I'm far to busy to repeat my sources over and over and over again everytime a new person finds my blog. TI claim they are there...if you don't believe me then prove me wrong. It's less work than me having to do it everytime i make a new post, so let's not talk about lazy.
To the poster who thinks i'm censoring him. Go back and read my warning . I said stop being repetitive and offer arguments based on honest in context unfudged statistics. The moment you do this your comments will make their way back onto the site allong with the old ones (to show i've got nothing to hide).
Listen..it's been a great debate here today...it would be far better on a forum where i don't have to pre-approve the comnents and you can all post your own stuff and topics etc. So why not join up and we take it back up there ? It would make life a lot more enjoyable for everyone.
Thanks for all the trouble for adding a source. I hope it didn't put you out.
I've watched that 1st video, and it's anecdotal conspiracy crap. There are multitudes of people on whom the drugs have affected positively.
Go read some David Icke. You'll enjoy his work.
it's here by the way...

Join up and express yourself and take the attention off me .
*think even
AIDS denialism is conspiracy bullshit.
1. HIV causes AIDS. Scientific fact.
2. ARVs are dangerous to a minority. Like all drugs. But ARVs are not dangerous to the majority. These are facts that we heavily resourced and firmly justified.
3. All drugs are dangerous. Hence their side effect lists. Breathing in air is dangerous, because it is polluted. Driving is dangerous. And so on.
4. AIDS denialism is based on conspiracies and propaganda and huge amounts of unsubstantiated evidence, most of which has been thoroughly debunked.
Deal with it.
"how could you claim to defend the scientific method and at the same time support the demonisation of people who asks questions ?"
Are you drunk? You must be. Where have I shown support for "demonisation of people who asks questions"?
I think you're drunk.
"Neither of us are Aids denialists ! We're people who propose a hollistic overview of the disease including third force factors such as stress and diet on the immune system. What is the crime in this ? "
Mbeki is. I've shown it already. He knows nothing about science either.
You shouted the "conspiracy theorist" mantra. You dismissed someone based on a label rather than their arguments. Gallileo was once a "conspiracy theorist". That's beating the strawman and it irques me to see people dismiss ideas without consideration in the name of science. There could be nothing less scientific.
Mbeki should have communicated his AIDS views properly, whatever they are. Since he stopped commenting on AIDS years ago, we'll never know.
As a leader, that was an unforgivable error.
Did you even watch the video ???
He's a highly intelligent man far more aware of the scientific method and modernistic discourse it stems from than 99.95 of the idiots who criticise him for it.
Nonsense. To intelligent people his message was loud anbd clear. Only the stupid and sensationalistic media ran away with it and turned it into something it wasn't.
It's the same as the media taking obama's lipstick on a pig statment regarding Palin to mean he's sexist. It's that absurd. And by the way it was pretty much the same ignorant stuff that lead to doctor beetroot. Do you know what vitamins have prove more effective that any ARV treatment ever devised in fighting off the effect of aids ?
"Gallileo was once a "conspiracy theorist". That's beating the strawman and it irques me to see people dismiss ideas without consideration in the name of science. There could be nothing less scientific."
You're right, he was. But, scientific research eventually supported his hypotheses.
Currently, anti-ARV hypotheses are moving further and further away from observable and tested scientific experimentation.
Maybe you'll be right. Maybe Mbeki will be right. It's possible, but unlikely.
Oh christ...I better justify that last point. According to various studies a high dose of vitamins has proved to be as , if not more ffective that ARV in fighting off the later stages of hiv/aids development. Again you can search through my blog for the relevent links.
"Nonsense. To intelligent people his message was loud anbd clear. Only the stupid and sensationalistic media ran away with it and turned it into something it wasn't."
Define "intelligent". Otherwise we can't continue this discussion. And by saying "stupid", you're showing your racist colours. Millions of South Africans are "stupid" by your implications.
For what it's worth , I've argued today while at the same time watching 5 episodes of lost and entertaining my woman. Catch me on a Monday and i'll be more willing to put my heart and efforts into it. With that said I've found it refreshing to have some debate and ideas thrown at me as oppossed to the usual "K####" and N####" shouters. It inspires me to lead the blog in a more productive route rather than just wind up rednecks.
Nonsense...the video draws no conslision and has no agenda. And yes...I would describe millions of South Africans as stupid. In fact I'd describe 98% of humanity as stupid. Wouldn't you agree ?
*conclusions....sorry...I really am trying to do 3 things at the same time.
"Oh christ...I better justify that last point. According to various studies a high dose of vitamins has proved to be as , if not more ffective that ARV in fighting off the later stages of hiv/aids development"
You sound just like Manto. ARVs without a healthy lifestyle will obviously lead to a quick death. Combined, they're stronger. It's not one OR the other.
That's narrow-mindedness.
If you have AIDS, I guarantee you'll try anything. Even God.
"ccording to various studies" - what studies? Are they from credible medical / scientific journals? Have they been peer-reviewed by credible experts in the field?
I doubt it.
You still haven't defined "intelligence".
Therefore, your comment can't be accepted as anything more than vomit.
"Nonsense...the video draws no conslision and has no agenda. And yes...I would describe millions of South Africans as stupid. In fact I'd describe 98% of humanity as stupid. Wouldn't you agree ?"
I disagree. Because "stupidity" is a matter of perception.
Nothing more annoying that a James Randi want to be on a discussion forum. Yes , they are peer reviewed. Your portrayal of the science around hiv/aids as black and white is ignorant and dangerous. Clearly debate, questioning and research in such a mysterious so called retro virus are tio be encouraged and not bellitled ????
Intelligence is easy to define. It's your ability to adapt effectivly to changes in your enviroment.
Actually, I've wasted enough time on your extremist blog. You're nothing but a fucking arrogant self righteous white racist with a chip on his shoulder and holds a serious gripe with the SA Sucks nationalists.
I've contributed to your web stats, and regret it.
You deny science and facts and logic, and you insult anyone who opposes your holiness.
So, with that, I'm out of here.
Think what you want to think about Afrikaners. You're a nobody anyway. If you were somebody, your blog would be ranked higher than it is, and you wouldn't be writing under a hidden alias.
Caio.
"Intelligence is easy to define. It's your ability to adapt effectivly to changes in your enviroment."
Therefore, most people are intelligent.
If you disagree, then define "adapt effectively".
Whatever buddy. Whowever you think I am , this blog is quickly turning into a south african phenomenon. I give it less than 2 months and this thing will go viral...already I see a load of hits and readers...and I'm just starting.
Of course I'm arrogant ! Why be modest when you can be Rooster ?
Adapt effectively is to be able to recognise stimuli which intend to decieve or manipulate you. And no...most people can't do that.
"Adapt effectively is to be able to recognise stimuli which intend to decieve or manipulate you. And no...most people can't do that."
Ha ha ha! What rubbish. You're trying to sound clever.
That is not "adapting effectively". Ha ha ha!
Buffoon.
What ???????
you would discourage alternative theories on cancer too ? Would you call them "cancer" denialists ?
And no , far be it from me to deny people with Aids hope...our fates our entwinded closer than you could imagine...not be it for me to encourage them not to approach their disease from a hollistic perspective , just as mr Mbeki has proposed.
When I propose such a moderate position and you label me a "conspiracy theorist"...are you surprised if I insult you for being stupid ?
It;s pretty univerally accepted that I'm highly intelligent. I'm hacking out effective retorts to your hard efforts while watching tv , drinking beer and listening to my annoying girlfriends guitar playing without blinking an eye. Yes , I'm that awesome
"you would discourage alternative theories on cancer too ? Would you call them "cancer" denialists ?"
I honestly think you're drunk. Where have I discouraged alternative theories? I've just pointed out that science is not in favour of ARV-denialist hypotheses. And that's all they are: hypotheses. Nothing more, since they're not accepted by observable and tested scientific experimentation.
"And no , far be it from me to deny people with Aids hope...our fates our entwinded closer than you could imagine..."
Now you're a fucking enlightened hippie? Hahaha! You're a result of the fact of evolutionary process, and nothing more. You're a fucking combination of cells that grow and die.
"not be it for me to encourage them not to approach their disease from a hollistic perspective , just as mr Mbeki has proposed."
Correct. He did do that. But he bungled up his message, and confused the uneducated masses, and didn't bother rectifying it, but rather continued on his path of confusion. But you love him, and I'm sure you'd love to suck his cock too, by the way you speak about him.
"When I propose such a moderate position and you label me a "conspiracy theorist"...are you surprised if I insult you for being stupid ?"
Your position is in no way moderate. It's extreme. I didn't label you a "conspiracy theorist". Show me where I said "you're a conspiracy theorist". Stop assuming things and stop putting words in my mouth.
And you want to call ME stupid? Please. Hahaha
"It;s pretty univerally accepted that I'm highly intelligent. I'm hacking out effective retorts to your hard efforts while watching tv , drinking beer and listening to my annoying girlfriends guitar playing without blinking an eye. Yes , I'm that awesome"
That Maddox. He's a legend, hey?
I think everybody should just calm down and take a a nice long drink of beetroot garlic and lemon and we'll all feel better in the morning.
Hey guys, read this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v340/cowcowmoomoo1/arguingOnTheInternet.jpg
The Rooster is a racist. You're actually the one thinking in terms of apartheid ideology. Your whole 'us' against 'them' attitude is completely outdated. We're not in the midst of some race war, though I think you are mentally.
I'm currently working in South Korea and I'm starting to realise just how desensitised I am to violence. It makes me quite sad. I tell people stories about things that have happened to me, such as being held up in my own house and they get very shocked while I'm really blase about it. We've started accepting horrific things as being commonplace everyday events. I love South Africa and I think we should be saying that we deserve more than this.
I'm from a mixed race lower middle class suburb and everyone regardless of race is totally fed up with crime.
By the way I have lots of family in Cape Town and in PE and I hear 'this version of South Africa' from them regularly. It's not just Johannesburg.
I do see it as "us verus them". "Us" being those which actually want to see our country improve and "them" being those who bathe and soak themselves in any misery of bad news they can find.
Mbeki's position (and mine)is the most moderate position possible on Aids. He's suggesting before we shove toxic drugs down our throats we also consider environmental fators. To say that equate "Aids" denialism is nothing short of denail it's in most concentrated form. I don't care if you appreciate the irony or admit it , but you're so wrong it's absurd.
Who else would you label an extremist ? Kapernicus ? Newton ?
"He's suggesting before we shove toxic drugs down our throats we also consider environmental fators."
"Toxic drugs" is a misnomer. All drugs are "toxic". Mbeki just didn't want to spend more money on ARV distribution. His confusing stance, as is evident in the townships, the medical fraternity, the scientific community, and even in his own cabinet, mad matters worse. His ARV denial is not about lives, but about money.
Thankfully, he's out. Zuma will come in, and Routledge will replace Manto. Sacking Mbeki has been glorious history in the making.
Actually under Mbeki's watch aids drugs are free in this country. So I really don't get where people are coming from when they attack his on this issue. Watched the interview yet ?
"Actually under Mbeki's watch aids drugs are free in this country"
No, not everywhere. I know many doctors who are still fighting for it. Mbeki's resistance to ARV distribution is well documented, and no video where he spins things for the camera can change that.
ARV distribution isn't totally free, and isn't readily available everywhere.
But you can carry on defending your great Mbeki. No one cares about him anymore. He's out. Zuma is coming, and Manto will be gone soon too.
Viva!
Tell me rooster, or dick head, or whatever your name actually is, ... all things said, if you actually had to say these things face to face, to a mother of a child that has been killed by this senseless crime that still continues in this country... would you have the balls to open your puerile mouth then!? Or or in the event of some real human interaction (hard to imagine here) would you be able to find something more intelligently tangible to say and do with your real life. As the humanitarian you so claim to be, you need to be aware that you definitely are at a loss with a couple of the essential ingredients needed. Im sure you have all the answers and everything to say, but in reality Im sure we all can imagine how really small you must be (in more ways than I care to imagine) that you have nothing authentic or objective to say, and so who really cares what you do or say, in the safe little "ball less" window that you mange to USE to get your little dose of human interaction... no wonder you never experience crime!!!

Actually if you took your blinkers off you would see Zuma is "puma"! He is unfortunately not quite the man for the job, with a reputation like that, (where there is smoke there must be fire), what can our government leaders hope he will offer to a nation that is trying to move forward with integrity and the "aspirations" of being a pioneer for the rest of the world. Believe it or not... our cabinet know this. Most things are not obvious, but belief should not be a leap of faith. Motlanthe will be our next President.
"If I insist there is a pink unicorn in my tummy , it's up to me to prove it."
Are you an athiest? Dawkins fan!
Still winding people up I see. Shameful, Rooster really.
Anyway I thoughty you were running for your life in Korea?
To all right and white South Africans I think you need to be told the truth. You're a minority and no one really gives a shit what you think. Buy Mauser and make a difference.
Actually I'm an agnostic , but I do appreciate Dawkins. Nobody can truly be an athiest. We're all Saganesque flatlanders here in our petty three dimensional space time ,with no real chance of knowing anything objective about the universe. It would be a truly ignorant way to live to presume we could for a moment grasp the mind of a so called god figure.
No , anon. This is not an orbituary list. I'm not going to start a precident where people start positng every bit of bad news on here. There are plenty of sites full of that already.
Here is a post from Economist and Syndicated cartoonist(dilbert) Scott Adams which pretty much sums of the poverty issue:
