The White South African tendency to spit the dummy like a little whinging child at the smallest thing is well documented on this site. Sometimes over some of the most arbitrary non issues you could ever dream up. Silly imagined crimes like a health minister making the totally factual statement that people who are hiv positive benefit from eating a vitamin rich diet are often enough to set people into a fit of neurosis.
Another example would be those insisting White South Africans are a target of genecode when in fact 1 in 33 murders happen to white people in this country (making the white murder rate around 4 times lower than the average). Sometimes I just want to pat you on the ead like one would do to console a child , but I refrain in fear you might collapse into the fetal position thinking I was trying to hurt you.
But sometimes you do have geniune and valid grips gripes. The sad thing is when you make such gripes the thinking rational man measures them against the context of whose have the gripe and sadly the message is lost. You're just been such drama queens about silly bullshit in the past that we take everthing you say with a salt mine. It's the old story about crying wolf too often. The moral of the story ? Choose your battles.
Now as much as I loathe the fact , I'm a human being just like you. I too have gripes about this country. No , they aren't the Jacob Zuma inaugaration ....people , people , people...every government in the world spends money on these events. They're necessary evil to build diplomatic ties, stimulate investment and form allies. How would you prefer us introducing ourselves to hundreds of international leaders and press ? A shabby third word affair ?
Not to mention the cars that carry the american president during their inaguration parades probably costs more than our entire little ceremoy tomorrow. Besides I remember the big militiary parades the old apartheid government used to constantly splurge on and recall very little concern for how they could "spend it on the poor" in those days. Drop the pretense. If you must gripe then gripe honestly ....but don't insult our intelligence and pretend it's out of concern for the poor.
On the other hand you could gripe about the zimbabwe visa issue and you'd find a sympahetic ear from me. Why ? Because I'm worrying about the effect of the socio -economic decline that will be brought in by millions of poor people swamping our country ? Hmmm....that's sort of it , but more so I just hate people. Less is more for me.
So that aside what do I consider a valid gripe about our country ? I plan to elaborate a few in the coming weeks starting today with........
pop idols....

It…(showering)…. would minimise the risk of contracting the disease. (Jacob Zuma, ex-Deputy President and ex-Chairman of the ANC’s AIDS/HIV taskforce, giving advice on how to prevent contracting the most deadly disease of the 21st century
Er...you're just about to feel a bit stupid. Listen closely.
Showering straight after sex DOES decrease the risk of contracting the disease as well as other std's. It obviously doesn't prevent it , but it does decrease the risk.

That's a horribly clumsy statement, Rooster.
Showering straight after sex does decrease the risk of contracting HIV. But so does turning over and going to sleep. Or making toast and watching a game of rugby. Or playing Xbox.
However, if you WANT to increase the risk, then do the following:
- having vaginal, anal or oral sex with someone who is infected with HIV.
- sharing needles or syringes with an HIV positive person.
- blood transfusions
The point is that a leader of a nation should NEVER make such clumsy statements like he did, ESPECIALLY when in a country when millions have HIV and when appearing in court on rape charges and being televised all over the world.
It isn't that much to ask that he thinks his answers through and gets it fucking right the first time.
