Back from hospital.

So I just got back from hospital where I had to undergoing further testing via MRI radiogram. I don't have any photos of the recent results as they are disk archived these days, but let's just say that this.....

From 2008. See that white stuff ? That's not supposed to be there. Well and now for all intents and purposes it isn't. It is pretty much inactive.

In fact the neurologist has described my treatment as "consistent with a successful treatment of an AVM."

This started 3 years ago when I underwent gamma knife radiation in south Korea. The prospective outcomes were bleak to say the least. The treatment was experimental and had shown poor odds of reducing the flow into an Avm of this size. I was effectively living with a time bomb in my head.

I still to some extent am but it's been pretty much diffused more than I could have ever hoped for. So remarkable and fortunate are my results my MD, a very analytical and rational person said "there's more than medicine at work here". I will be going to see a neurologist in Cape Town to inquire as to whether I will require any further treatment and if so what form it will take. It's quite likely that I won't require any and if I do it will be very moderate with a very high chance of total success.

I don't know why i am sharing this on this blog but i suppose with all the death wishes over the years I've had and all of the nasty comments when I was diagnosed on here, I want to shove it "in your face" so to speak. I also just sort of want to scream from the roof tops that I'm alive and have a very good chance of a future. Something I didn't dare let myself dream about a week ago.

2 days ago after I got the results and read and re-read it around 50 times and it slowly began to sink in that is now a good chance I will have a full life all the pain, fear, fatalism and existential suffering of the past 3 years just bubbled up and out in tears. I'll never get back these 3 years of dread, despair etc but it has made me a much stronger person. And it's given me a good insight into what the absence of hope can do to the human psyche. I suppose I'll leave that observation as the flimsy link to the general topic matter of this blog.

My thoughts on Iran

So it should be no secret that I'm politically a libetarian (very different from a liberal as my critics so often get wrong) and much because I have a man crush on Ron Paul. He is currently running for the republican nomination and despite the attempt from the big business controlled media (terrified of the prospect of someone not in their pocket actually being in power like pretty much every president in the last 100 years) to block him out of your consciousness he is still a real chance. He came in a close third in Iowa and is polling second in New Hampshire. If you don't know what I'm talking about fuck you and get dog in this fight. The very future of our lives is at stake. Here's some evidence of what I'm talking about.

Anyway I'm watching a lot of CNN to get my dose of the double speak and soviet like propaganda. I refuse to call myself a conspiracy theorist because that's insulting to my extreme intelligence and the blatant facts that appear so obvious to me. To break it down quickly and simply you should KNOW the following: The world IS controlled by oil and weapons company interests. There really is a Bilberberg group and there really is a New world order zionist (not to be confused with Jewish in the religious sense) conspiracy to divide and rule (Since Lenon, Marx etc....just read more if you think I'm loopy) . The truth is so Machiavellian and manipulative I don't expect you to easily accept that. We're after all talking about people who send kids to die for profit etc. The truth when so evil is often rejected by the human mind. I forgive you that fallibility. Just a friendly reminder that 1 in 10 people is a sociopath and a further 1 in 10 of those is a gifted sociopath. That 1 in 100 people is very likely a corrupt but successful businessman, serial killer or worse.....politician.

Anyway I want to talk about Iran.

If...and god forbid (not that I believe in the genocidal, sadistic, maniac that is described in the old testament because he would not forbid it) ...the U.S.A does get into a war with Iran let me tell you it will be nothing to do with any Iranian aggression (much the same as with IRAQ) and all to do with oil and the American federal reserves wish to push interest rates up (print money backed against nothing) for its profit. It is believe it or not a private enterprise. You can laugh me off but the joke is in you if you don't know what I'm talking about.

So here's my little personal story.

About 5 years ago I was flying out somewhere or other and stayed in a hotel in JHB for the night. I met an Iranian physicist here on a conference and took him out to Monte Casino for some vice. We ended up gambling, drinking and watching some cabaret with scantily clad females which was rather to his(and mine) taste. Anyway in between the revelry we got to discuss the situation in Iran. Of course as an arm chair cosmologist physics was much on the agenda but he showed little interest in the quantum realm. His general assessment ?

Iran is free and thriving and there is very little social or political objection to the leadership. This is the card that will shortly be played in the coming war mongering (heard it here first) that the people of Iran are oppressed. In fact much like Iraq (where women had more freedom than Saudi Arabia by miles but wasn't in the U.S.A's pocket), Iran is a bastion of liberal Muslim rule. Despite rumours of statements like "wipe Israel off the map" it's simply never been said. Despite "nuclear aspirations" etc It's warmongering pure and simple. Iran poses no threat to the U.S.A. In fact when Obama (that lying fuck) was elected Iran went so far as to say to the U.S.A if they dropped the santions they were fully willing to drop their "nuclear aspirations". What followed was ongoing aggression and propaganda from the U.S.A towards Iran.

So what can we expect ? A war in the next 2 years. 100's of thousands of deaths. Massive profits for the military industrial complex.

For no good reasons.

Yawn. This world gets more boring and predictable by the day.

After a break and with so much to vent and nowhere to vent it I realised I missed writing this blog. So just to let you know I will be starting to blog again here that I'm back from the holidays. The same goes for updating http://www.themcfearless.com . I know I'm still reposting revised articles of mine on there but I will be posting weekly new stuff on there when I've got the back catalogue in there.

Now consider how much the charging of cellphones, ipod's etc adds to the electricity grid when there are something like 50 million cellphones in the country (in usuage alone). It's at least the energy equivelent of 100 million duracells aa batteries a day alone.

While I'm done with this site it's clear I have a personal bone to pick with a certain poisonous individual with sinister divisive agenda out there on the internet to cause race tension and cause a race war in South Africa.

"Genocide watch" (some random guys website with absolutely no rights or authority to make claims about genocide but yet are held by the extreme right white supremacists as a "bastion of validity") are constantly sourced as a reference to some kind of evidence that genocide was imminent in South Africa. This is mostly the work of Adriana "queen bullshitter of universe" Stuijt who got into the ear of the random sites owner Greg Stanton spreading lies such as the following...

- Over 3000 white farmers have been murdered in South Africa since 1994. (In fact T.A.U (Transvaal Agricultural union says that 1200 people of all races have been murdered on farms since 1992. 33 last year (of all races) which is 50% down since the year before and the lowest ever since 1994.

- She claims she has a list of the over 3000 white farmers names and presents instead a list of around 1160 listings/names, Also many names on the list are non whites, most are not farmers and some were not in any sense of the word murdered. Her list also goes back to 1987 and not 1994. These lies are all proven as lies and linked to at http://www.listconspiracy.blogspot.com

Oh call her out on this and she'll do all sorts of back pedaling "The list isn't complete and has been hacked" an old favourite. Who hacks a list to add more names of people who are not murdered yet removes other names ? And if so why after me pointing it out many times to her are no attemps made to correct her list and claims of what it presents ? BULLSHITTER. She will also offer you a link to another guys (Keith Knots)list which itself is also mostly a list of "attacks, theft and mostly of non whites and far less than half the 3000 "victims" she claims. Afrianna relies on one flimsly trick, that you have a confirmation bias and won't double check her claims or be skeptical and read her "evidence". Because when you do the stench of bullshit is so self evident even the blind would know they walked in a turd. Just take the time to read it before you swallow it. Sarah "maid of Albion" has also informed me in her own passive way that she concedes Adrian's list is a farce. Emails to prove that too if she kicks up a protest. I also have an email from uhuruguru to Adrianna where he calls her out for her blatant distortions.

- She claims there are only 14 000 farmers (individuals) left in South Africa when every other single authority claims there are 40 000 commercial FARMS alone in south Africa and around 200 000 small holdings. How many people live on those ? Very minimum 1 million. 14 000 my peppered ass. To show the absurdity of her claim there are 11 000 maize farms alone in South Africa.

- the list of her other "distortions of the truth" and constant assurances that doomsday is looming are her putting up pictures of people selling used tires next to the road and claiming they are preparing to set them alight to prevent white flight from cities, that Military vehicles were flowing into south Africa sourcing a photo of a 20 year old military vehicle and literally countless other non events and baseless rubbish.

Anyway the crow has been going on a lot about genocide watch and their escalation of South Africa. Stanton of genocide watch confided in me that he had been manipulated by her and promised to be more critical of the "news" she sent him in future. This email he sent me last night.

There's no denying farm murders do happen and as with any murder 1 is too many (especially considering there's nothing more important to a countyr that food security), but none of that is really your genuine concern now is it ? It's all very histionic and insincere.

And the usual disclaimer : 1 farm murder is too many !!! Do all you can to support the heart and soul of our country who are our farmers and their right to safety and security, but don't cry wolf, and callously use their suffering to push your foul agenda to cause racial tensions which will only logically lead to more race related crime in this complicated country.

I wonder how many farm murders have been the direct cause of the type of dehumanising rhetoric spewed by the extreme right white supremacists of Adriana's ilk. ?Through their writings or actions ? I must ask, though, if you think that level five is too high, isn't there a lot of polarization in South Africa compared to ten years ago, especially among alienated African unemployed youth? We don't claim that our risk model is linear, in any case, since there is little evidence that hate groups have organized to a significant degree (level four). What has worried us was that the ANC Youth League was becoming such an organization. Now that Julius Malema has been removed as its President, that risk seems to have diminished.

Guys I'm smarter , better read and more rational than you but don't take it badly. The same goes for just about anyone. If you find you disagree with anything I say you're almost definitely not qualified to have an opinion on the matter. So read up and learn. Who knows ? Someday you may transform from an ignorant bigot lacking in empathy and a thorough understanding of the world into a almost functional non cunt (unlikely I admit, you're mostly so deeply dosed in twat you're a lost cause). It's a long shot, but this page of articles might just sling you in the right direction. Don't be proud when you discover how your Cartesian dualistic idiocy is exactly that. A real man admits his mistakes and corrects them. I hope some of you can become real men.

So....the archive. I will try post a few older posts every day. Those of you who find some value in these ramblings please link to this page. Dear Kallie,

Like you, I am a white Afrikaner who lives in Africa. I was glad to read in last week’s City Press that you identify yourself as “an African with a light complexion”.

I do too. I suspect, however, that we have vastly different interpretations of what it means to be an African Afrikaner in South Africa and on the position of Afrikaners in 2011.

You see yourself firstly as part of a minority group whose constitutional and human rights are being disregarded by the ANC. The premise of AfriForum’s campaigns is one of victimhood.

You regard the Afrikaners as a group under threat, a people whose basic rights to expression, association and movement are constantly being undermined by the black majority.

You want to struggle – in the courts, on the streets and in the legislature.This is a dangerous game, Kallie. You are not stupid, I know that.

So why are you refusing to present to your supporters a fairer, more balanced picture of your people’s position in South Africa today?

Is something more sinister at play? Is scaring people a more profitable tactic for AfriForum?

You know as well as I do that the Afrikaner’s cultural, religious and linguistic identity is not under threat. When I visit the Potchefstroom or Oudtshoorn arts festivals, I don’t see people who are suppressed.

In fact, they look happier to me than they were in 1994.

Have you heard of Afrikaner author Deon Meyer’s phenomenal success? We write what we like, Kallie.

You referred to the right-wing publication Die Afrikaner in your interview with us. Would an oppressive regime, hellbent on suppressing its minorities, allow such a publication to appear?

I think not.

You (and Judge Colin Lamont) use the very narrow definition of numeracy to define minorities. Yes, numberwise the Afrikaner is a minority group.

But even the United Nations, whose Minorities Declaration of 1992 is repeated almost verbatim on AfriForum’s website, recognises numbers can never be the only determining factor when defining minorities.

The UN published a report titled “Minorities under international law” in which it specifically (and ironically) quoted the South African example: “In most instances, a minority group will be a numerical minority, but in others, a numerical majority may also find itself in a minority-like or non-dominant position, such as blacks under the apartheid regime in South Africa.”

Who knows why the ANC’s legal team didn’t make this point in the case you brought against them. I’m sure AfriForum would agree that poor black South Africans are in an even less dominant position than middle-class Afrikaners from Pretoria.Which brings me to crime.

Why does AfriForum focus largely on crime against whites when you know black, poor people are by far the most vulnerable members of society when it comes to violent crime?

I see your old foe, the Transvaal Agricultural Union, admitted last week that farm murders were down by almost 100% in the last financial year.

I didn’t see a press statement from them or AfriForum on this.Isn’t there also a responsibility on a civil rights group to inform its members when things improve?

Isn’t there a risk we’ll have more Johan Nels – the young killer from Swartruggens who believed blacks were actively targeting whites in some form of genocide, and murdered four black people out of blind rage – if organisations like yours don’t inform and educate your supporters about what’s really going on?

Or is there some reason you don’t?

If they are a minority, then Afrikaners must be one of the most powerful, wealthy and diverse minorities on the planet.

Remember apartheid? The system that benefited your and my forbears to such an extent that we are still better off today than our black peers?

Have you had a look at the Sunday Times’ most recent Rich List published two weeks ago?

If you did, you would have seen that four Afrikaners – Christo Wiese (Shoprite), Laurie Dippenaar (FirstRand), Johann Rupert (Rembrandt) and GT Ferreira (RMB) – are included in the country’s top 10 richest people.And did you see who the top two earners were for 2010?

Shoprite CEO Whitey Basson (who earned R627 million) and BHP Billiton boss Marius Kloppers (R77 million) – two Afrikaners.

Did you discuss this with the members of AfriForum?

Surely it is not possible for people from a minority group who are suppressed to do business in their country of birth?

And have you asked Wiese, Dippenaar, Rupert and Ferreira whether they regard themselves as minorities? Have they addressed AfriForum’s membership on becoming a billionaire minority?

It doesn’t seem so when I look at your website.

I only see campaigns against Julius Malema, taxi drivers and Judge Nkola Motata (to your credit, you did commission a legal opinion on the Protection of Information Bill).

Did you see Stats SA’s latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey for 2011?

Did AfriForum tell its supporters that the year-on-year unemployment rate of white people was the only population group to have decreased?

Did you explain to them that 30% of adult blacks (four million people) are jobless, compared with 5% (105 000 people) of whites?

If not, why not?

I suppose you have to emphasise the “threats” to get your supporters to donate to your “Stop Malema” campaign.

This is speculation, but I’m guessing that AfriForum has close to zero legitimacy today for black South Africans (and thousands of whites).

I am not saying you shouldn’t have taken the Dubula ibhunu case to court, but I’m questioning why you decided to pick that case and insisted on a judgment, even when Lamont was trying his best to push for a settlement.

Even your own “Civil Rights Manifest” argues in favour of settlements.I am deeply concerned about the effect AfriForum’s actions are having on our society and this is why I’m writing this letter to you.

Your actions are having a polarising effect and you need to do serious introspection if you want to be respected as a civil rights group.

Otherwise, you risk being a racist lobby group. Is there any reason AfriForum has no black employees (according to your website) and, I assume, no black members?

Have you considered joining forces with other rights groups like Abahlali baseMjondolo, the South African shackdwellers’ movement?

Or even the Landless People’s Movement?

Or do you really only want to represent the rights of (a small group of) Afrikaners, even though your “Civil Rights Manifest” commits you to benefiting “all the citizens of South Africa”?

Do you always have to feel white first, and African second?

I saw this response on Mybroadband by a poster called R13. I thought it was a nice summary of some white people must be blind not to see.

For the average voter, the ANC is not a failing party. You have a house thanks to the ANC. You have electricity, thanks to the ANC. You have running water, thanks to the ANC. Or you don't have all those things but your neighbouring village or settlement has them and the same is promised you next time 'round. In this person's mind, without the ANC all those things would not have happened to them. (Rooster : And probably wouldn't have if Apartheid still existed with those NP morons at the helm.)And then you look around your neighbourhood and you see young ANC bucks driving around in the latest & greatest SUV and you think, hey my kids can aspire to that one day, this stuff didn't happen in the bad old days! All that didn't happen when the white man were in charge. So in the average person's mind the ANC is still the best & greatest. - R13

The song "shoot the boer" has recently been banned. I was just watching the morning news when the question was asked in it's defence "How would you feel if we banned Afrikaans songs ?"

For once I'm going to take the sides of the Afrikaners/extreme right. Let's acknowledge a general truth: In this country if a black person is killed it is very likely to be at the hands of another black person. But if a white is killed it's again likely to happen at the hands of a black person.

With that FACT let's admit that the time has gone for you to see yourselves as the victim. You must atone for this reality by at the very least having the good sense to not sing songs/make light of the violence that is carried out.

Now I'm very outspoken about the fact that farm murders are highly exaggerated. I've proved that over and over and there's really no doubt about that. BUT they do happen and they are too often extremely violent involving torture etc. To sing such a song in the face of this does exactly what the far right does...it polarises people. And I'm sure as hell not in the favour of that.

So stop it. Stop defending this song. Your right to a fuzzy feeling of nostalgia can not come at the expense (real or not real) of people feeling afraid. Ethically your right to " a good time" does not trump another persons right to a feeling of security. Maslow’s hierarchy and all that.

Besides, it's a crap song.

And what's more Julius Malema has about as much chance of doing anything to help the poor in this country than does a catholic priest of becoming the head of a anti paedophile movement. None.

I mean fuck this guy. I'm so damn tired of reading about him. Boycott any newspaper who puts anything about him in it. We shouldn't care what some communist populist has to say and we sure as hell shouldn't be helping spread his message.

Johannesburg, 13 September 2010 – The Latest World Economic Forum (WEF) Competiveness report ranks South Africa 1st out of 139 countries in for its regulation of securities exchanges. This year South Africa moves up from 2nd place overtaking Sweden for the top position.

“We are very pleased with this achievement, which acknowledges the JSE’s record in terms of regulation and surveillance. This ranking also sends a very good message about investing in South Africa,” says Russell Loubser, CEO of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), South Africa’s only securities exchange “It is a testament to the effective working relationship between the JSE and the Financial Services Board (FSB).”

The JSE is accountable to the FSB for the regulation of its markets, market integrity and investor protection. The two organisations work closely together.

A well-regulated securities exchange is especially important to international investors post the global financial crisis. In the midst of the crisis, unlike many exchanges, the JSE did not ban short selling nor introduce circuit breakers.

Released on 9th September, the 2010-2011 WEF Competiveness Report ranks countries according to 12 pillars or sets of criteria. The study rates a country’s competiveness according to quality of infrastructure and institutions, efficiency, market sophistication as well as capacity for innovation. Regulation of securities exchanges falls under the 8th pillar for financial market development.

South Africa fairs well in terms of financial market development criteria with an overall 9th place ranking. Dr Chris de Kock, the head of the police's crime research and statistics unit said murder was one of the most reliable statistics as all corpses were recorded. "There is no under- or over-reporting," he said.

Dr Johan Burger, senior researcher for the Crime and Justice Programme at the Institute for Security Studies, told the Mail and Guardian that the institute had been working hard over the past three weeks to verify crime statistics, due to the cynicism with which they are often met.

"We did our homework," Burger said.

The ISS looked at figures from Grant Thornton, the South African Banking Risk Information Council, the petroleum industry and the Consumer Goods Council. He said all indicators showed crime was indeed down.

"It is drastically reduced in some cases."

Business Against Crime (Bacsa) President Lorinda Nel said that the decreases "are in line with the figures we calculated". Bacsa studied figures from the insurance industries, banks, the motoring industry and the petroleum industry.

Both Burger and Nel put the decreases down to better partnerships between police, private security firms and business.

SA's murder rate drops (yet again) 6.5%

Pretoria - South Africa's murder rate dropped by 6.5% to 15 940 murders in 2010/11, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa said on Thursday. (Still too high by the way, but we're talking about the wrong perception that it's increasing so keep that in context)

"It is perhaps worth mentioning that during the 1994/95 period our murder ratio as a country stood at 27 000," (70 per 100 000 to 31.88 per 100 00) he said in Pretoria on the release of the annual crime statistics.

The figures were drawn from April 2010 to March 2011.

"Murder is one of the most reliable forms of crime statistics," the minister said.

Attempted murder decreased by 12.2%.

Sexual offences

Though there was a decrease in sexual offences by three percent, Mthethwa said this was "an area that still required focused attention".

"We are mainly concerned about the number of rapes that occur in the country... the number of reported cases of rapes still remains unacceptably high," he said.

The number of rape cases reported rose from 55 097 to 56 272.

Mthethwa said rape, based on international trends, was often under-reported.

During the period under review, 94 police officers were killed in the line of duty. This was down from the previous year's figure of 110 police killed.

Assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm dropped by 4.5%, while robbery with aggravating circumstances was down by 12%.

Robberies down

Two years ago, house robberies had increased dramatically and last year, it showed signs of stabilising, Mthethwa said.

This crime declined by 10% to 16 889 cases during the 2010/11 financial year - the first decrease since 2004,

"Our engagement with the insurance industry reflects that they too have started to witness the impact of this decline," the minister said.

"According to the SA Insurance Crime Bureau, different insurance companies are experiencing decline in the range of between 4% and 31%."

Car hijackings were down to their lowest level since 2003/04, after a steady increase in the past three years. This crime had now dropped by 23.6% to 10 700 cases.

Truck hijackings decreased 29.2% with 413 reported cases.

After a 2.7% increase in the previous year, the number of burglaries at residential premises had now dropped 4.8%.

However, there was an increase in non-residential robberies of 0.9%, particularly among small businesses like spaza shops, supermarkets and schools.

ATM bombings soar 61%

Cash-in-transit crimes were down 18.7% and bank robberies declined by 58%.

A decrease in these two categories of crimes was, however, leading to an increase in ATM blasts, which increased significantly by 61.5% to 399 cases.

The majority of the bombings, 57.1%, took place in Gauteng, followed by the North West at 12.4%.

There had also been a substantial increase of 10.2% in drug-related crimes, which had become a long-term trend with drug-related crimes doubling in the last eight to nine years.

Cases of drunken driving or driving under the influence of drugs were up by 4.5%.

Commercial crime rose 2.8%. This was increasingly dominated by cyber-crime.

Dear white South Africa,

First let me make it clear that as a white South African I too become extremely frustrated at what I see, at the corruption, the crime, the greed, the list goes on.

What frustrates me as much, though, perhaps even more, is the way we are dealing with it. Since the end of apartheid, what have we actually done?

We have retreated behind ever-higher walls, and hidden behind the anonymity of the internet to vent some sometimes appallingly racist rhetoric.

At that is the main purpose of this letter.

It is directed at those members of white South Africa who come on to internet forums and say the most horrendous things about black people, that they are unintelligent and savage and un-evolved.

Now you may think that I am going to lecture you on moral grounds, but you are wrong. What frustrates me is the pure, blind stupidity of these actions.

Can you not see that you are playing directly into Malema’s hands? That you are doing exactly what he wants you to do?

Why is the ANC still in power? After such evident corruption, maladministration, and blatant lying (like Schabir Schaik being terminally ill, seriously!), why does black South Africa continue to vote for them with a sixty percent majority?
And the answer is: because of white South Africa.

That is the only tool that the ANC has. They need to keep the racial divide as wide as possible, because that keeps black people voting for them. Just as the Nats used swart gevaar as a propaganda tool, today’s ANC needs wit gevaar. It’s all they’ve got.

And the thing that frustrates me so much is that we are playing directly into their hands. Pretty much none of us have learned a black language. We shout so passionately for the Boks but we don’t even turn an eye to our soccer teams. Instead we come onto the internet and spew racial hatred anonymously.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t totally hate the ANC. They have some good people, but what I do hate is that the sixty percent majority, time and time again, vote blindly. That is not what a healthy democracy is all about, and that is what’s going to take us all down the sewer.

The way to bring that sixty percent down is not to sit behind our fences and shout insults. The way to bring that sixty percent down is to reach out to our fellow South Africans, and show them that we do not disrespect them.

The massive irony is that those right wing whites who insult black people are Malema’s puppets. They are his foot soldiers. They are his sales reps, because what he sells is hatred, and they’re out there doing it for him, free of charge.

The irony is incredible. (Amen !)

And the ANC is pretty smart about the way they do it. All they need to do is mention a white tax, or nationalisation of mines, or land distribution, and we go out and do their work for them. (Always been a key message of shutupwhitey.)

We dutifully log on to our PCs and push their agenda by reinforcing what they say about us.

These people who come on to forums such as this and tell black people that they are stupid are in fact acting more stupidly than anyone in this country. How stupid do you have to be to pick up a gun and shoot yourself in the foot with it? (Yup, they are stupid.)

So, dear white South Africa, maybe today extend just one small kindness toward a black South African. A smile, a greeting, hold a door open. It will be worth your while in the long run, I promise you. (Again very wise words.)

We are very grateful for your critique of our possible naivete in passing on the statistics on farm murders in South Africa compiled by Adriana Stuijt.

I have asked our Communications Director to post your comment on the Genocide Watch facebook page on South Africa just as it is. If you are right, we should be cautious about trusting the statistics of Ms. Stuijt.

Our major reason for raising the threat level to stage six were speeches of Julius Malema, his advocacy of farm invasions, and his continued leadership of the ANC "Youth League" (even though he is over 50). (Rooster note : You see here that he isn't exactly an authority on S.A right and should not be taken too seriously with his assessment ?) The farm murders were evidence of a polarized society (level 5). But Malema's speeches are far more ominous, and he was recently re-elected President of the ANC Youth League. However it is a hopeful sign that the ANC is taking disciplinary action against Malema for Marxist statements he recently made in Botswana.

For the time being we will stick with our re-classification of South Africa and Zimbabwe at Stage Six. But we are willing to question whether we are right to do so.

Yes, by allowing a far stronger enemy force to decimate and despoil their ranks! (But count your blessings — at least the president didn't spell "history" with "her.")

Years ago the women's movement stopping working for gender equality and initiated a campaign of intimidation, censorship, and male demonization.

Recently the National Collegiate Athletic Association ran an advertisement on its website depicting a man gently cradling his son with these words: "All I want for my son is for him to grow up knowing how to do the right thing."

Who could ever get upset over something like that?

The Women's Media Center, that's who. The Gender Guerillas got heartburn because the ad was sponsored by the pro-life group Focus on the Family. So last week they forced the NCAA to yank the ad. (Shame on the NCAA for its lame acquiescence.)

Like the beguiling schoolgirl who keeps elaborating on a little White Lie because everyone has stopped listening to her, the feminist claims have become increasingly shrill.

Take a March 2 BBC headline that screamed, "UN Warns HIV/AIDS Leading Cause of Death in Women." The article went on to claim that "up to 70% of women worldwide have been forced to have unprotected sex." (Note the red-meat words designed to summon every chivalrous male within hailing distance: "forced" and "unprotected.")

The BBC article provided few details and didn't even concede the name of the report. So I set out to search out every nook and cranny of the UNAIDS website.

I never did locate the document.

But according to the UNAIDS, there were two million AIDS-related deaths in 2008, about one million of whom were females. And according to the WHO World Health Report, 8.6 million women die of cardiovascular disease each year.

So is AIDS the leading cause of death for women? Not by a long shot.

And the 70% figure? Well, that number keeps making the rounds every few years.

Four years ago the Washington Times came up with this corker, "A 2005 U.N. Population Fund report found that 70 percent of married women in India were victims of beatings or rape."

The claim turned out to be a hoax and the Times was forced to retract its indictment of Indian husbands. But keep repeating the 70% number and one of these days it's going to stick!

One of my favorite columnists, Barbara Kay, recently pondered the lessons from the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Noting that 75% of women, and only one in five men, survived the hellish incident, she writes:

"According to the feminist mystique, these men should have been controlling, egocentric, self-serving bullies, for whom women were nothing more than sexual and domestic conveniences, little better than slaves. So instead of "fetishing the victimhood of women," Kay proposes, Why not celebrate the manliness of men on April 15, the date of the Titanic's sinking?

About half a dozen of the Soweto club's players spent yesterday nursing bruises and getting medical help for their injuries after Edenvale Panthers Rugby Club turned the game into a kick-boxing match with players, support staff, fans and parents descending on the field and attacking the "Kaffirs".

Soweto Rugby Club is at the top of the Gauteng league with an unbeaten record. The Panthers are second, having only lost to the Soweto team.

The Soweto outfit was winning by 29 points to seven with less than 10 minutes left on the clock when all hell broke loose.

The first player to be attacked was Sikelela Nazo.

"I tackled their player to force him to score a try on the side instead of under the poles. When I got up, one of his teammates ran over to me and pushed me.

"He called me a Kaffir.

"As I was concentrated on him, another one came from the side and punched me on the jaw and floored me. I do not remember what happened next," he said.

Nazo, whose front teeth were knocked loose, could hardly speak when Sowetan interviewed him yesterday outside Edenvale Hospital in the East Rand where he was being treated.

His coach, Themba Masina, got a black eye as he tried to rescue his players.

Now the Soweto club's secretary-general, Zola Ntlokomu, says the team will sue. "We will sue the club, and the Gauteng Lions Rugby Union. This is not the first time an incident like this happened, and the Lions union is not doing anything to prevent it.

"In 2008, we formed the Lions union because we were unhappy that the Johannesburg Police Rugby Club assaulted our players. The manager and supporters of the Titans Rugby Club attacked and beat up our player. The game had to be abandoned. We were winning by 55 points to 12."

Lions Rugby Union manager Peter Visser confirmed the incident but said he could not comment as he was still to receive a report from both teams and referees.

He said the Anti-Racism Committee and the Competition Committee were looking at previous incidents and would take up this case.

"This is not good for the image of rugby. No matter what club, big or small, racism will not be tolerated," said Visser.

Edenvale police confirmed that a case of assault was opened yesterday.

SA crime – the moaning continues

Written in 1998 I quite like this chaps assessment of the 4 types of crime whingers. Interesting to noet since then violent crime is down a further 12 %.

Sadly, South Africa is known, amongst many other things, for its high crime rate. But there came some good news on that front today with the release of the latest crime figures, which show a marked decrease, especially in many of the more serious crimes: murder down 4.7% and robbery with aggravating circumstances down 7.4%, for example. Well, I think it’s good news, but others aren’t happy.
Once again, (I always have to clarify this bit before I talk about crime in SA), I do recognise that South Africa has a problem with crime and I do recognise that something needs to be done about it and that people have a right to expect the government to do something about it.
However, with the murder rate down to its lowest level in six years and a overall decrease in crime, I think that it is obvious that the initiatives and efforts which are being put in place to combat crime are beginning to work. Perhaps unsurprisingly, there are very few people who seem to recognise this, though.

A lot of the negative comments I have read on various SA websites and forums on this subject fall broadly into four categories, which can overlap Venn diagram style, to allow maximum pessimism.
Firstly, there’s the Mugabe reaction: these people have read and heard that crime has decreased, but they are simply ignoring the news and pretending it hasn’t happened. That way, they continue to have something to moan about and a reason to live.
Secondly, the negative optimist approach – and no, that’s not an oxymoron. These people note that crime has fallen, but are not happy that there is still crime happening. In the negative optimists’ world, there is no murder, no robbery, no vandalism and everyone obeys the speed limits. These people should have listened to Safety and Security Minister, Charles Nqakula, as he was presenting the report this morning:

He told media in Pretoria during the presentation of the annual crime report that even though the statistics indicated a steady decline, crime levels were still very high and “unacceptably so: Government wanted to see a more drastic decline.”

See? He agrees with you. Crime is still unacceptably high. But it’s down.

Next up, my particular favourites: the nit-pickers. They will pick and choose the worst stats to illustrate just what difficult circumstances South Africa finds itself in: Yes, murder is down, rape is down, robbery is down, but what about truck high-jackings? Did you see that truck high-jackings were up?
Finally, the never-believers. They stand by the words of Mulder & Scully. Trust no-one. These stats are all made up by the Government to make us feel better, when really, crime has sky-rocketed. They cite the fact that these figures are only for reported crime. Which is absolutely correct. However, I defy any government, worldwide, to present accurate statistics on unreported crime, because, you see, it’s unreported.
However, in the unlikely event that the Government has completely fabricated the figures presented today, then I feel that they could have done a much better job on reducing truck high-jackings.

So, there you have it. Once again, I’m fed up with people moaning instead of doing something proactive, like joining their neighbourhood watch. I’m fed up with people only looking for the bad news instead of being happy that there’s actually some good news. I’m fed up with people having foolishly high expectations and feeling angry when they are unfulfilled. Bring forth your predictable and ill-thought-out comments.

I think I will answer that more fully, even though it was put to me anonymously. I did blog for a short while on I Luv SA, but I was under the impression that the rationale of the blog was that it was critical of the ANC. It did start out that way, but became progressively more intolerant and negative. It's ok to occasionally make fun of other races, but to bang on and on and on about how hopeless blacks are, and how much better things were under apartheid, well that's bullshit.

I think I Luv SA should be called, I Luvved White SA and I hate any Black government (Rooster : Nail on the head !), but that's probably an academic point as they have been closed down.

Before I was kicked off that blog, Islandshark and Ron. had the knives out for me. This was as a result of my (occasionally) making fun of Afrikaners, and also because of a political profile quiz I took part in, and which put me slightly to the left of moderate. The blog leader at the time leaked my result, and the right wing bloggers got even more uptight.

So that was the end of that. I was in the wrong company. Right wingers don't like people who have different political opinions to theirs. They insist that everyone should see their point of view, but it doesn't work the other way around.

And obviously you can expect to have crazy gunmen reinforcing their own extreme ideas by reading that kind of drivel. Birds of a feather.

Breivik borrowed liberally from several sources in writing his rambling ideas to defend Western civilisation.

One of his themes is the struggle against multi-culturalism, and he used several articles on the topic from the blog iluvsa.blogspot.org, which has a banner proclaiming: “I luv South Africa... but I hate my government”. (You assholes must be so proud.)

Breivik quotes the blog about “the modern South Africa, ‘The Rainbow Nation’, where under black rule the Marxist ANC are viciously persecuting whites (Rooster edit : oh fucking please ! You mean the same whites who remain by far the wealthiest group and largest land owners, least affected by crime ? What crap !) ... and where poignantly, let’s not forget, many black people are now suffering far more than they ever did under apartheid”. (Again utter nonsense. Go tell that to those living in the over 3 million new homes, 80% of the country who now has electricity compared to 30% during Apartheid etc etc ...and to think people died for this fucking wolf crying !)

Recent months have seen an increasing number of people question the political and economic trajectory of our country. Once silent parties, such as organized business and the black middle classes, have come to display a new openness in echoing concerns that were previously the preserve of a handful of ‘conservative’ opinion makers in the country. Even the media, which had long been the Government’s handmaiden on introducing ever more interventionist policy and regulation into almost every facet of our country, has become a great deal more critical. In the international community once liberal opinion has turned against the ruling African National Congress. It is now common to hear senior diplomats and executives of multinational firms express grave concerns about our future. Today the ANCs own allies talk about having to save the country from a ‘crisis’. However a case can still be made, and now more than ever needs to be made, that despite our many challenges the future of our country is not as bleak as many are making it out to be.

Where the new widespread openness about policy failures serves to safeguard South Africa as a free and open society it is to be welcomed. However, there exists a danger that a collective sense of negativity about South Africa may come to exaggerate the actual extent of the risks facing the country.

The challenges are well known. They include an often incompetent and widely corrupt Government and public service. Standards of public schooling for black South Africans are often very bad. Many in the ruling ANC remain tied to outdated ideological notions of transformation and redistribution that prevent South Africa from realizing its full potential as an emerging market. These and many other shortcomings are now widely acknowledged and the Institute has been publicly identifying them since long before it became politically acceptable to do so.

Below follow ten reasons to have confidence in the future of South Africa. These are not the asinine ‘good news’ stories of South Africa ‘baking the world’s biggest chocolate cake’ which have for too long been bandied about as evidence of the success of our post 1994 democracy. Rather the ten points are carefully researched and considered facts on current macro-trends for the country.

1. Positive economic growth

Growth forecasts by the Treasury see South Africa achieving a level of GDP growth of over 4% by 2013-2014. Admittedly this is a rate far lower than that of emerging BRIC nations and far lower than that of sub-Saharan Africa. But it is a rate on a par with that of the past decade. This means at the very least that the country should remain in a position to generate sufficient revenues to fund its own expenditure. This point is backed up by further Treasury projections of the budget deficit leveling out to just over 3% of GDP by 2013-2014. Figures released by the Treasury are usually conservative and it is quite reasonable to have confidence in these projections. Living standards and income levels must therefore be expected to continue improving in the country - in stark contrast to widespread negative sentiment.

2. Rising fixed investment

Gross capital formation, or fixed investment, as a proportion of GDP sits at 23% in South Africa. This is still too low but is an increase from the figure of 15% at the time that the ANC took office. The current figure is higher than that of Brazil and is only three percentage points lower than that of Russia. It is a figure that is expected to increase by 6% by 2013-2014 and to maintain that level of increase for the medium term. Much of this investment is being carried out by private sector firms who contribute some 70% of investment into South Africa. Such figures demonstrate that there remain real investment opportunities in South Africa for foreign and domestic private sector entrepreneurs.

3. Growing portfolio investment

Non-fixed or portfolio flows into South Africa have increased significantly in recent years as foreign investors have come to take advantage of the interest rate differential between South Africa and mainly Europe, Japan, and the United States. This is admittedly short term investment that can be removed at the click of a mouse but is does assist the country in financing its current account deficit and is also indicative of a measure of at least short term investor confidence in South African assets.

4. A favorable macro-economic environment

Perhaps the greatest success of the ANC in Government has been its management of the macro-economy. The prime overdraft rate fell from close on 20% after the ANC took office in the mid 1990s to under 10% today. This is a truly phenomenal achievement which has greatly boosted the capacity of the private sector in the country to grow and to contribute new value and investment. Here the ANC deserves much credit from South Africa’s business community who have benefited from better economic circumstances under the ANC than they saw at any point over the last 50 years.

5. Improved living conditions

Almost every measure of service delivery demonstrates significant increases in the proportion of households accessing various types of services. This is an important point to make in a country which has convinced itself that service delivery has failed. It has not. The proportion of households living in a formal house has increased by 73%, or by 4.2 million households, since 1996. Increases of a similar scale are true for access to electricity, clean water, sewerage systems, and communications infrastructure. That so called ‘service delivery’ protests occur is in our view a function of failures in the labour market more than anything else. This is a problem that can only be solved via labour market policy changes. It does not change the fact that in terms of transfers from wealthier to poorer South Africans a considerable amount has been achieved to improve the living conditions of poor people.

6. Improved living standards

Today roughly five million income tax payers contribute to a system that supplies monthly cash welfare grants to 14 million poor people. It is impressive that an economy as small as that of South Africa can generate the domestic revenue to support such a programme. If the Treasury’s growth forecasts are correct then this programme remains perfectly sustainable for the foreseeable future. This Institute has long argued that welfare is not a sustainable path out of poverty. However it is only fair to concede that these welfare efforts have done much to raise the admittedly meager standards of living of poor people. The extent of these grants also challenge the assumption that the middle classes, and especially white middle classes, are callous and indifferent to the suffering of their fellow South Africans. Today every (mainly white) income tax payer foots the bill for the living expenses of three poor (mainly black) households and will continue to do so for years to come. Further the welfare and service delivery data above proves that it is simply not true to suggest, as many social movements in poor communities do, that living standards in South Africa have not changed for the better since 1994.

7. Access to higher education

That South Africa’s school system underperforms is taken as read. However, at tertiary education level much has been achieved over the past 20 years. In 1991 white South Africans earned 20 business degrees for every one earned by a black African South African. Today that ratio is 1 to 1. In engineering the ratio was 44 to 1. Today it too has improved to 1 to 1. Similar improvements are true for all university qualifications pointing to the massive potential that is being created in South Africa’s eerging black middle class.

8. Declining murder rate

South Africa’s murder rate is currently seven times higher than that of the United States. However statistics released by the police indicate that this rate has in fact come down by 50% since 1994. Admittedly questions have been raised about the accuracy of the police’s data. But until evidence to the contrary is produced it remains fair to consider that some real progress may have been made since 1994 in curbing the horrific levels of violence that characterized the country in the run-up to its 1994 transition.

9. Increasing incomes

In current prices, average annual per capita incomes in South Africa, have increased by 201% since 1996. Incomes for black Africans increased by 235%. White South Africans will be interested to note that despite reservations about equity legislation and empowerment provisions their incomes increased by 217% over the same period. South Africans today are wealthier than they have ever been and on current trends will continue to see their incomes increase.

10. Politics that make us a free society

More than ten diverse political parties are represented in South Africa’s Parliament. The ruling ANC regularly comes in for much public criticism in South Africa. Both points demonstrate that politically much of our society remains free and open and that the future of the country still rests in the choices made by its voters. True dictatorial regimes such as those in Zimbabwe or Myanmar would simply not tolerate the criticism that the ANC puts up with. Consider too that in the face of sustained public pressure the ANC appears to be trying to extricate itself from the media tribunal mess by now suggesting that greater self regulation of the media may be satisfactory. On the nationalization of mines an influential core of the party have publicly criticized the policy on the grounds that it is not in the best long term interests of South Africa. On both land reform and empowerment the ANC has repeatedly delayed the enforcement of a number of its own targets in the face of evidence that the targets could not be met. This is very pragmatic behavior for a party that is under immense popular pressure to meet the significant expectations of its supporters. That the party has not been swayed to make short term populist policy decisions is a reason to have some future confidence in its current senior leadership.

This article acknowledges the imposing nature of the challenges that confront the country – and the limited capacity of the Government to meet those challenges. Its argument is therefore not to understate the scale of these problems but rather to make the point that despite them we have managed to remain a resilient and growing economy. It is important too that constructive criticism of Government failures continues to be leveled at the Government. However those who form opinions on the country may get it wrong when they take our many challenges to mean that the future of the country is now in such peril as to amount to a clear and imminent crisis. It is in fact remarkable that despite its many challenges the country it is still able to offer up the ten points upon which this article has argued its case for South Africa. In addition courage within the Cabinet to lead policy shifts on both labour market regulation and skills may yet place us in a position to assume our true potential as one of the world’s leading developing economies.

For any of the high profile ones in the last year I've noted it's pretty close to 100%. And yes, every farm murder is high profile and makes a big splash in the papers (and so it should be). Which gives the illusion that they are common place when in fact we generally only hear about 1 perhaps 2 a month. 1 EVER is too many, let's be clear on that...but....for the sake of giving some perspective to those who suggest farmers are especially the victims of violent crime in S.A, please consider in the same period in this country around 1500 people would have been murdered. Most if not almost all young black and coloured males.

Classification Symbolization Dehumanization Organization Polarization Preparation Extermination Denial

Genocide is a process that develops in eight stages that are predictable but not inexorable. At each stage, preventive measures can stop it. The process is not linear. Logically, later stages must be preceded by earlier stages. But all stages continue to operate throughout the process.

1. CLASSIFICATION: All cultures have categories to distinguish people into “us and them” by ethnicity, race, religion, or nationality: German and Jew, Hutu and Tutsi. Bipolar societies that lack mixed categories, such as Rwanda and Burundi, are the most likely to have genocide. The main preventive measure at this early stage is to develop universalistic institutions that transcend ethnic or racial divisions, that actively promote tolerance and understanding, and that promote classifications that transcend the divisions. The Catholic church could have played this role in Rwanda, had it not been riven by the same ethnic cleavages as Rwandan society. Promotion of a common language in countries like Tanzania has also promoted transcendent national identity. This search for common ground is vital to early prevention of genocide.

2. SYMBOLIZATION: We give names or other symbols to the classifications. We name people “Jews” or “Gypsies”, or distinguish them by colors or dress; and apply the symbols to members of groups. Classification and symbolization are universally human and do not necessarily result in genocide unless they lead to the next stage, dehumanization. When combined with hatred, symbols may be forced upon unwilling members of pariah groups: the yellow star for Jews under Nazi rule, the blue scarf for people from the Eastern Zone in Khmer Rouge Cambodia. To combat symbolization, hate symbols can be legally forbidden (swastikas) as can hate speech. Group marking like gang clothing or tribal scarring can be outlawed, as well. The problem is that legal limitations will fail if unsupported by popular cultural enforcement. Though Hutu and Tutsi were forbidden words in Burundi until the 1980’s, code-words replaced them. If widely supported, however, denial of symbolization can be powerful, as it was in Bulgaria, where the government refused to supply enough yellow badges and at least eighty percent of Jews did not wear them, depriving the yellow star of its significance as a Nazi symbol for Jews.

3. DEHUMANIZATION: One group denies the humanity of the other group. Members of it are equated with animals, vermin, insects or diseases. Dehumanization overcomes the normal human revulsion against murder. At this stage, hate propaganda in print and on hate radios is used to vilify the victim group. In combating this dehumanization, incitement to genocide should not be confused with protected speech. Genocidal societies lack constitutional protection for countervailing speech, and should be treated differently than democracies. Local and international leaders should condemn the use of hate speech and make it culturally unacceptable. Leaders who incite genocide should be banned from international travel and have their foreign finances frozen. Hate radio stations should be shut down, and hate propaganda banned. Hate crimes and atrocities should be promptly punished.

4. ORGANIZATION: Genocide is always organized, usually by the state, often using militias to provide deniability of state responsibility (the Janjaweed in Darfur.) Sometimes organization is informal (Hindu mobs led by local RSS militants) or decentralized (terrorist groups.) Special army units or militias are often trained and armed. Plans are made for genocidal killings. To combat this stage, membership in these militias should be outlawed. Their leaders should be denied visas for foreign travel. The U.N. should impose arms embargoes on governments and citizens of countries involved in genocidal massacres, and create commissions to investigate violations, as was done in post-genocide Rwanda.

5. POLARIZATION: Extremists drive the groups apart. Hate groups broadcast polarizing propaganda. Laws may forbid intermarriage or social interaction. Extremist terrorism targets moderates, intimidating and silencing the center. Moderates from the perpetrators’ own group are most able to stop genocide, so are the first to be arrested and killed. Prevention may mean security protection for moderate leaders or assistance to human rights groups. Assets of extremists may be seized, and visas for international travel denied to them. Coups d’état by extremists should be opposed by international sanctions.

6. PREPARATION: Victims are identified and separated out because of their ethnic or religious identity. Death lists are drawn up. Members of victim groups are forced to wear identifying symbols. Their property is expropriated. They are often segregated into ghettoes, deported into concentration camps, or confined to a famine-struck region and starved. At this stage, a Genocide Emergency must be declared. If the political will of the great powers, regional alliances, or the U.N. Security Council can be mobilized, armed international intervention should be prepared, or heavy assistance provided to the victim group to prepare for its self-defense. Otherwise, at least humanitarian assistance should be organized by the U.N. and private relief groups for the inevitable tide of refugees to come.

7. EXTERMINATION begins, and quickly becomes the mass killing legally called “genocide.” It is “extermination” to the killers because they do not believe their victims to be fully human. When it is sponsored by the state, the armed forces often work with militias to do the killing. Sometimes the genocide results in revenge killings by groups against each other, creating the downward whirlpool-like cycle of bilateral genocide (as in Burundi). At this stage, only rapid and overwhelming armed intervention can stop genocide. Real safe areas or refugee escape corridors should be established with heavily armed international protection. (An unsafe “safe” area is worse than none at all.) The U.N. Standing High Readiness Brigade, EU Rapid Response Force, or regional forces -- should be authorized to act by the U.N. Security Council if the genocide is small. For larger interventions, a multilateral force authorized by the U.N. should intervene. If the U.N. is paralyzed, regional alliances must act. It is time to recognize that the international responsibility to protect transcends the narrow interests of individual nation states. If strong nations will not provide troops to intervene directly, they should provide the airlift, equipment, and financial means necessary for regional states to intervene.

8. DENIAL is the eighth stage that always follows a genocide. It is among the surest indicators of further genocidal massacres. The perpetrators of genocide dig up the mass graves, burn the bodies, try to cover up the evidence and intimidate the witnesses. They deny that they committed any crimes, and often blame what happened on the victims. They block investigations of the crimes, and continue to govern until driven from power by force, when they flee into exile. There they remain with impunity, like Pol Pot or Idi Amin, unless they are captured and a tribunal is established to try them. The response to denial is punishment by an international tribunal or national courts. There the evidence can be heard, and the perpetrators punished. Tribunals like the Yugoslav or Rwanda Tribunals, or an international tribunal to try the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, or an International Criminal Court may not deter the worst genocidal killers. But with the political will to arrest and prosecute them, some may be brought to justice.

This was inspired after reading a horrible story and then having to roll my eyes at the comment section.

As an animal lover I don't want to come across an an apologist to any form of animal cruelty. But it does tend to be an issue the radical right hijacks at times to demonise SPECIFICALLY black people in this country. It is within this context I would quickly to give you a brief guided tour to a short history of animal cruelty carried out by absolutely almost every human culture.

South Korea. Dogs farmed in tiny cages like chickens (so that they could not develop their muscles) and tied up by the legs and beaten to death with sticks so that maximum adrenalin can get into their skin to promote the supposed virility factor of the meat. 6 million eaten a year.

Japan : Watch "the cove" or whale wars.

China : Too numerous to even begin. Cats boiled alive, monkeys brains eaten alive etc.

Spain and others : Bullfighting.

The U.S.A : Rrecreational hunting of bears/deer etc for trophies.

The U.K : Fox hunting.

South Africa whites: Hunting/killing for pleasure rather than the pot.

It's exactly the same conclusion I came to after years of dealing with the weird psychology some people illustrate about South Africa, and elaborated by a clearly intelligent individual. I posted it before but it deserves a re-post. For context this was after me bitching about being banned from a site for spreading the message of tolerance.

You mustn't let it get to you. Sod mybroadband and other bs blogs with an axe to grind. There's no way you can get a bigot to change their mind, you're wasting your time and energies there. They're losers trying to control other people's minds because their own lives are out of control. I Luv SA are now just as bad as SA Sucks because they also harp on and on about everything being negative; it's called confirmation bias whereby any information is qualitatively slanted according to that person's perception. Most of them don't even live in South Africa anymore, they just want South Africa to fail to justify their own decision to emigrate. The UK isn't such a great place. The Ozzies aren't all that friendly. Canada is freezing cold. The reason they bitch on about South Africa is to make themselves feel comparatively better off. And that, I'm afraid, is what makes a lot of people tick: if they think they're slightly better off than someone else it makes them "happy".

It's orange picking season in my part of the world. The tempretures have also plummeted. Yet at 5:30 am in the morning hundreds of black people line up everyday to volunteer to get on trucks and busses for a 12 hour days work for R800 a month with at least half of them turned away.

Yet they will be back again to try tomorrow. In the freezing cold. 5 : 30 AM in the morning. For the slim chance of getting a few months working 12 hours a day for R800 a month.

Why blacks don't vote for the D.A.

This one from my "kaffa" buddy Khaya. So why don't darkies vote for whiteys ?

It’s not that black people are racist. And I won’t get into the “can black people be racist debate” so let’s leave that outside (yes, I’m talking to you person who was about to write that comment before you’ve even read the whole column).

In case we forget, the ANC also gets a very small percentage of the white vote. One could also easily argue that white people are racist and that’s why they don’t vote for the ANC so let’s not even go the racist argument route. There will be no winners. It’s an easy and thoughtless argument to make. Let’s park it.

Of course there are many black people who vote DA, a whole six percent of them according to the DA’s own admission.

The reason black people don’t vote DA has little to do with the ANC racialising the vote. Some may to deny that the ANC has done that but it has. As we know, the ANC would stand to benefit more from a racialised election. There are naturally more black people in South Africa, therefore black people would then be voting ANC if the vote is based on the race card. That’s just how it is. If the ANC is racialising politics, the reason people are not voting for the DA is not because of racialisation at all.

One would also assume that it is because people don’t trust white people 17 years after the end of apartheid. Of course there is still suspicion. The scars are still too raw. Still too painful. But this is also not the reason.

Fixing problems

We still have white bosses in our places of employment. Some are better than others. Others are caring and genuinely want to see black progress. Some are resistant to change. Resisting what is new and what one does not know is not new, it is human nature. Just like some are trying to resist Twitter.

The real reason most black people won’t vote for the DA is because they want to fix their problems for themselves. They don’t want to feel like they need a white person to solve their problems for them. If they allow the DA to take over, this is what it will feel like, “We can’t do it for ourselves, let’s let the white people fix this for us.”

I know this may seem like a contradiction when I said it has nothing to do with race. It seems like race, but it really doesn’t have to do with race even though everything seems black and white. It’s about pride. It is about proving to ourselves that we can do it on our own. Once we are satisfied with this, once we have proved to everyone that we can, we can think about it.

This won’t make any sense to someone who has never experienced oppression, to someone who has never been told that they are subhuman and incapable of making complex decisions. Some may say we just want to fix the problems regardless of race. This is a bit like a woman complaining about a problem, then the guy tries to fix it and then she says, “I don’t want you to fix this for me, I want to fix it for myself, I just wanted you to listen and understand!”

Suspicion

The basic premise of apartheid was that black people are inferior and therefore are incapable of governing; they deserve white supervision. It is simple. Black people want to do it for themselves. Yes, with white help because we are all South Africans. It is a matter of not being told what to do by a white person. That is the perception one gets when one votes for the DA.

What will happen if Lindiwe Mazibuko leads the DA? Black people will still be suspicious. There will be a perception that she is being told what to do by the “madam” and white folks in the background even if that is not the case. It will take years before the DA washes that off.

There is nothing new about a particular racial grouping voting for a particular party. Let me take us to the United States. The US has two major parties, the Republican and Democratic parties. What is peculiar about the US is that even though the Republican Party, the party of Lincoln, is the one that freed the slaves; it only gets about 12% of the black vote. When John Kerry ran for the presidency in 2004, he got 88% of the black vote. When Obama ran in 2008, he got 91% of the black vote.

What is even more peculiar is the fact that black people in the US hold similar conservative views as the Republicans but they will still not vote for the party because of some perceived racial biases the party holds. This is the problem the DA has in its hands - perceived racial biases. The party will have to get over that hurdle.

'Give us a chance'

The reason the black people in the US vote Democrat is thanks to presidents Franklin Roosevelt, JFK and Lyndon Johnson (Johnson who passed the civil rights act into law). When Johnson signed the law he knew that he was sacrificing the Democratic vote in the Southern states for generations in order to give black people equal rights to honour the constitution which says, “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal.”

But in doing so, he was losing a large white vote. Black people saw something tangible being done for them by a party and then stayed loyal to it. What can the DA do to prove that it is not just interested in getting the black vote but only after white interest? These are the questions the party has to ask of itself.

Sorry DA, black people aren’t being racist. It is a matter of saying, “Give us a chance to show that we are competent too.” In this regard, black people don’t mind working with white people, they just don’t want to be told what to do by white people. White people have been telling us what to do for years; can we just do it for ourselves now? Work with us but don’t tell us what to do. I know it’s tough to understand but that’s just how it is.

A discourse analysis of utterances by members of the ANC yields interesting results. By discourse analysis here I mean an analysis of linguistic practices through a focus on the link between linguistic meaning and the power relations such linguistic practices serve.

First, the ANC’s persistence in defending their right to sing the liberation song containing the lyrics “dubul’ ibhunu” or “shoot the boer”, at a time when the liberation struggle — in military and political terms — is 17 years behind South Africans, is an unmistakable discursive index of their inability or unwillingness, to switch resolutely to the role of a political party in a modern/postmodern multi-party democracy. As I have argued before, to sing the song in this new context is a serious misinterpretation of the decisive differences between today and the period preceding 1994. I believe that the song was recently labelled as incitement to murder in the high court, without leave to appeal. The ANC is steaming mad at this — another indication that it is either unaware of, or wilfully ignores, the discursive irreconcilability between the practice of singing it today, and the previous context, when its singing made some sense for ANC cadres fighting the apartheid government.

One is immediately constrained to ask why it is deemed to be in their interest to do so at this stage in the ANC’s history as a political party. Politics is all about the wielding of power in a societal context, of course, so that it is easy to infer their — specifically Malema’s — reasons for continuing with what should be an obsolete practice: in a discursive context, the power served by the meaning of the song, is supposedly to galvanise the support of voters for the ANC, or more accurately, for an image of it as (still being a) liberation party. The implication of this is, of course, that there is still something to be liberated from, and that the “Boere” are somehow complicit with this oppressive force, whatever it may be. And language being what it is, namely discourse, in a social context it is probable that a lot of people would be influenced by this to support the ANC — judging by the crowds who have been supporting Malema at his hate speech trial, this is indeed the case, let alone judging by some of the slogans they have displayed on posters outside the courtroom.

Needless to repeat, South Africans should be way beyond such retrogressive, atavistic discursive tactics. The question is whether the ANC as an organisation is mature enough to move beyond them. I do believe that some members of the ANC such as Trevor Manuel have already moved beyond them. But I’m afraid that if one samples another discursive specimen from ANC discourse, this time an utterance by Jacob Zuma, the answer seems to be in the negative. Recently the president (no less) of South Africa, campaigning for the ANC in the run-up to municipal elections, was quoted as warning voters that not voting for the ANC would be tantamount to invoking the ire of “the ancestors”.

The first thing that strikes one about this in discourse-analytical terms is that it reflects a measure of anxiety, if not desperation, about the forthcoming elections insofar as the phrase “the ancestors” represents a domain of meaning and power that, strictly speaking, lies outside of the secular domain of politics. At least this is supposedly the case, and has been, since the end of the western Middle Ages, when a religion-dominated era was gradually replaced by a largely secular, predominantly political era (it was the era of the centrality of the nation-state, which we are today in the process of breaching, en route to another, possibly supra-national era). Invoking “the ancestors” on the part of Zuma is equivalent to another party leader (say that of the ACDP or perhaps the DA) telling voters that they risk facing the extreme displeasure of the Christian God unless they vote for their party. It is surely abundantly clear that there is a discursive incompatibility or anomaly here or what philosophers refer to as a “category mistake” — discursively speaking, neither the “ancestors”, nor God, has anything to do with how people vote. Whatever one’s religious beliefs may be, these concepts, or entities, presumably have something to do with one’s spiritual wellbeing instead.

But there is another discursive thread here that cannot be ignored, connected as it is, to the invocation of the “ancestors”: it belongs to the discourse of pre-modernity to place one’s trust in supernatural entities like these, at least where the political and social organisation of a people is concerned. Since the advent of modernity — from about the 17th century onwards — “reason” in its broadest sense has been the court of appeal when it comes to matters political, ethical, scientific, aesthetic and technological. And there is scant sign of this in an appeal to the “ancestors” in a political domain.

Following this line of discourse further, it readily connects with another discursive symptom of prevailing, if lamentable, pre-modern beliefs of the worst kind in SA, namely the continuing practice of muti murders (regularly reported on in the local press). Muti murders are predicated on the pre-modern, superstitious belief that human body parts, ranging from eyes, ears and tongues, to genitals, can be instrumental in curing people’s ailments. Or worse, in providing one with the personal power you need to prevail over some enemy or to secure the wife, or husband, of one’s desire. From a discourse-analytical perspective, it is only within a situation characterised by pervasive superstitious beliefs like these that a call on voters to support the ANC, lest the wrath of the “ancestors” be visited upon them, would stand any chance of gaining a purchase on voters’ minds (or more importantly, their pencil-wielding hands on voting day).

The persistence of these superstitions and the ANC’s unscrupulous tapping into them, instead of promoting a collective situation where people are disabused of superstition and encouraged to act more rationally, is lamentable. SA is supposed to be a (modern, postmodern?) democracy, constituted as such by a very progressive Constitution, which, to say the least, requires a modicum of rationality from its citizens, including, if not especially, its political leaders. And for political leaders to stoop to this kind of pre-modern discursive strategy is counter-productive in this respect but probably not regarding the aim it is supposed to achieve.

I am not saying that people should not continue practising ancestral worship, if that is their chosen or inherited, religious tradition. I am saying that to believe the ancestors would somehow “punish” you for not voting for a specific political party, is unadulterated superstition, just as it would be superstitious to believe that the Christian God would exact punitive measures if one does not vote for a specific party. Do people really believe that only supporters of certain parties, and not others, have a monopoly on the favours of supernatural beings? If they do, they only have themselves to blame. They should attempt to emulate Immanuel Kant’s call to enlightenment, namely *“Sapere aude!“, “have the courage to think for yourself!” But that is too much to hope for, not only here, but in the rest of the world too.

Listening to TAU’s Advocate Roelof du Plessis as he cross-examines Mr Julius Malema in his hate speech case is a bit like sitting on a stage in front of a crowd of people and having one’s tooth extracted without any anaesthetic while having to listen to Steve Hofmeyer songs being played backward. It is painful. It is embarrassing. It is dehumanising. It is stupid.

Du Plessis sounds like Adriaan Vlok or PW Botha giving a speech in 1986 about the dangers of communism and the evils of ANC “terrorism” and the swartgevaar. It is like the baas telling the bloody k*@ffirs how lazy, stupid and evil they are. Talking about Lenin, Marx, communism and the evils of land distribution, is really not the way to win the argument — either inside court or outside court. The fact that adv. Du Plessis thinks this is all relevant, suggests that he does not get out enough and that he has no idea that he lives in a South Africa that is now a constitutional democracy.

Du Plessis’s approach is so tone-deaf and so obnoxious that it manages to do exactly the opposite of what it is intended to do: it creates sympathy for Julius Malema and for the singing of the Kill the Boer song. Instead of dealing with the legal issue — whether the singing of the Kill the Boer song by Julius Malema at a politically charged event constituted hate speech – Du Plessis is seemingly trying to put Julius Malema’s political views on trial, caricaturing these views in the process. But because his own views are so extreme, it is adv Du PLessis’ views that one ends up judging as being unreasonable, paranoid and bordering on racist.

In any case, the court is not the place to deal with such issues. These are political disagreements that run deep. This once again reminds me that it is inappropriate to deal with the singing of the song in a court of law. What is needed is to engage the ANC leadership on this issue so that it could return to its former position that the singing of this song in certain contexts is not helpful and that it should be avoided.

But Du Plessis, alas, is so clueless that he natters on in defence of the old South African flag and other obsessions of AWB types. He seems to suggest that Afrikaners are in danger of becoming victims of genocide. This kind of view is so ignorant of our history and the nature of the democratic transition, that it cannot but alienate any right-thinking or reasonable South African. By performing in the manner that he has, adv. Du Plessis has managed something of a miracle — he has managed to make Mr Malema sound reasonable, level-headed and dignified.

The cross-examination serves as a timely reminder (if any reminder is needed) that some South Africans still do not see the ANC as the legitimate government of South Africa. Seething with anger and suffering from a historic amnesia, he seems unaware that South Africa has emerged from a deeply evil system and that we now live in a democracy in which a legitimately elected government is implementing the policies of the ruling party.

In a constitutional democracy one has a right and a duty to argue about whether the policies of the governing party are wise or not and whether it is good for all of us (by which I do not mean only white South Africans) or bad for all of us. But even if one does not agree with the ANC government’s policies or even if one is critical of the corruption and arrogance of some ANC leaders, this does not make the ANC government illegitimate.

I must say, watching adv. Du Plessis’s performance today is almost enough to make me want to burst out singing: “dubul’ibhunu / dubula dubula”.

During the julius Malema trial an expert from the T.A.U was called up. He presented the official number of farm murders that he was willing to put towards a court of law of farm murders since 1990. Around 1000.

So that the final nail in the coffin for the "over 3000 farmers murders since 1994 " brigade of loons It's closer to 1000 since 1990 and he never specified the race of ethnicity of the farmers. 50 a year. Out of around at the very least +200 000 people (but probably closer to 350 000). Or 25 per 100 000. Much less than the black murder rate and 4 times lower that the coloured murder rate, but twice as high as the average white male murder rate (which is 6 times higher than the white female murder rate.)

Result ? NOT GENOCIDE IN ANYWAY AT ALL

Alec Hogg attacks the myth of the white man’s (tax) burden.
MOOI RIVER – Three-years ago after our beloved Great Dane died, we rescued a puppy from SPCA death row. Our “Sowetan Terrier” Frankie repays us nightly, keeping watch while the household sleeps. Nothing happens on the farm that Frankie doesn’t know about. Especially when it involves snakes.

Last week our fearless friend got into a scuffle with a Rinkhals, biting at the body of the hooded serpent as it tried to slither away. Fretting that the snake would tire of Frankie’s irritation and dispatch our scruffie to Dog Heaven, I shouted at her to get into the house and ran off to grab a suitable weapon.

By the time I got outside the snake had disappeared. Fortunately. Because once my pulse had steadied, there was a much-needed lesson from Nicholas, our go-to man for everything relating to the natural world. He explained that my fear of the Rinkhals is illogical. They are actually completely docile, always preferring flight to fight and so laid back, Nick says, that when confronted will often “play dead”, rolling on to their backs with their mouths open. He said we should be grateful a snake like this is around as it will also keep the toad population down.

Which proves, not for the first time, just how dangerous a little knowledge can be. All of us know that a snake with a hood (like a Rinkhals or Cobra) is poisonous and a strike from its fangs will hurt, even kill. But that’s where the understanding ends. For most, a snake, any snake, gets us reaching for a spade to slice off its head. It’s deeply ingrained into the human psyche. Even the baddies at Harry Potter’s school are, naturally, in Slytherin House whose mascot, of course, is a serpent.

Our collective fear of snakes, based as it is on the danger of having just a little knowledge, reminded me of recent conversations with fellow citizens after Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s Budget speech. During his hour in the spotlight, the straight-talking former Receiver told us that while 6m South Africans pay income tax, 15m receive social grants.

He was trying to make a different point. But it also gave fresh ammunition to those who refuse to believe our country is progressing. Here was more proof for the self-righteous who love to talk of the “White Man’s Burden” in the New South Africa. If it weren’t for “us” paying tax (read: Whites) then “they” (read: Blacks) would starve. “We” keep the country going. “They” pick up monthly cheques for doing nothing. Even the finance minister admits it!

These Budget stompie-picker-uppers are like us dog-owning-snake-spotters. A little bit of knowledge, taken selectively, is dangerous indeed.

Yes, there are only 6m South Africans who pay income tax. But it’s not for want of trying. Our income split means most South African workers earn less than the PAYE threshold of R5 000 a month. That doesn’t mean labourers, shop assistants or nurses don’t contribute to the national fiscus. They might avoid tax on their income, but certainly don’t escape it when spending.

Critically, everyone pays the same 14% value added tax (VAT). And Treasury’s total take from this umbrella levy is virtually the same as what it gets from 6m income taxpayers. VAT and income tax each broadly provide a third of the annual cash that flows into the national coffer. The other third, roughly, is from companies, customs duties and taxes on petrol, booze and tobacco.

As for the 15m who get social grants, what cynics rarely conveniently forget is that a third of them are children and almost 6m too old to work. Kids on welfare didn’t exactly win the lottery of life. Their situation is usually caused by HIV-deaths or being born to single, unemployed mothers. As for the elderly, who could possibly resent someone who often has to walk miles to collect R1 140 a month? Especially considering the aged poor are the real victims of apartheid, people robbed of a decent education by their skin colour.

So next time you get assailed with the “us” and “them” tax argument, hopefully you’ll politely point out the danger of having a little knowledge? On second thoughts, don’t bother too much about being polite.

Let me clear the air. I think the song shoot the boer should be banned. Not because I actually think anyone sings it or takes it to mean that they should "shoot the boer". I mean grow up. But because the singing of it is being used by the right to distort reality and cause tensions.

So ban the song. It is is bad taste at best after all. But these are some good point I highlight here.

Equality Court Judge Collin Lamont paused African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) president Julius Malema's hate speech case on Tuesday to order that anyone carrying firearms remove them from the court.

"People who have arms are supposed to be dispossessed of them in this court," said Lamont when power returned after a brief blackout.

He said he would not tolerate firearms in his court.

On Monday, Malema's bodyguards carried assault rifles into the court passage although on Tuesday they did not.

However, there were a number of policemen present bearing arms.

"It poses not only a threat to the witness, but also to me," said Lamont.

He told Malema's lawyer, Vincent Maleka, that he did not know if the firearms were part of his delegation, but he wanted them removed.

After a short period where people in the gallery craned their necks to see who the judge was referring to, Maleka continued cross-questioning AfriForum Youth leader Ernst Roets.

He extracted from Roets that he did not understand Zulu and Xhosa and initially did not understand what the lyrics "dubul' ibhunu" (shoot the boer/farmer) meant.

He said he felt threatened by Malema, whom he regarded a racist.

Roets did not feel welcome in South Africa due to statements such as the one being argued over, and said his Afrikaans community, which is a minority, would be increasingly threatened and marginalised by such songs.

"The concern is that songs and songs like this sung by Malema can only be damaging."

He said it went against the Constitution and democratic principles.

He conceded that he and his delegation were not harmed during a meeting with Malema at ANC headquarters, but they had joked beforehand about taking security. After the ANCYL had explained that the song had a struggle history, they gave a demonstration that left the AfriForum Youth confused, although not harmed.

He said the song had a place in museums, history books and plays, but not in the political environment.

Maleka took him to task on an AfriForum gathering where a placard was displayed saying Malema had blood on his hands, and asked Roets if this was meant literally.

Roets said it was not literal but referred to murders of farmers.

Maleka then said it was not Malema creating racial polarisation.

One cute thing hard line racists do predictably is point out the existence of many poor black people as an example as to the "racial" (genetic to those of us who are intelligent beings) differences in human "races".

Now I won't blow their mind by revealing that there is scientific consensus that race does not exist in a biological sense in any significance between races as between individuals within races. We're talking after all the dumbest of the dumb ren necks here who don't even know what a phenotype is after all. So let's keep it simple and ask them a question in the way the dumb asshats will understand :

If white people are rich and hard working because of their "racial" up make, then why do we find poor and lazy whites ?

AS shown in a famous study, of all the "white" populations in the world a large majority of Afrikaans have "black" ancestors in their recent past. As many as 70% making them the "blackest whites" groups in the world considered white. While for the English they only have a very small make up of "mixed blood".

And this does seem to follow a trend.

Anyone who has watched the show South Park for long enough remembers the neurotic kid Tweak. Poor Tweak always jumped up on account of his father owning a coffee shop. Doesn't tweak remind you of someone from Gauteng ? Just replace the coffee with cocaine and the comparison is just about perfect.

Whenever I'm in that part of the world and out somewhere it smacks me in the face how much "energy" everyone has. Well that's what they call it anyway. I'm a coastal lad and we drum to a different beat. Gauteng they're thumping away like their auditioning for sepultura, while we're playing the bongos to a Jack Johnson track.

Anyway, so I met yet another couple who decided they had enough of the country and were going to leave. But on my friends advice (who had also been through the same thing) they decided to try life here by the sea. Weeks into doing just that, reality seeped into their brains like a thirsty sponge : It's not South Africa that is a crap place to live, it's Gauteng !

The South African hubris of the week is to lose their minds over the cost of electricity going up by 25% on Friday. You morons !

Now wrap your pea brained, idiotic and stupid minds around this and shut the fuck up.

1)South Africa has in 17 years increased the percentage of people with electricity from 30% to 80%. That costs money !
2) For these such reasons of high new demand and relatively low supply, the less developed a country the more expensive electricity is. However even when compared to highly developing countries, South Africa has cheaper electricity than all the Brics economy countries.
3) And even despite that South Africa even has cheaper electricity than most developed first world countries.
4) South Africa is currently building a bunch of new power stations. These cost money !

I really don't like the A.N.C's message they are giving out lately. They always do this close to elections (racialise everything, it's a national sport) and soon after revert to political correctness. I made the same comments before the last election. I hope they are given a swift kick up the bum in the coming local elections. Just like the A.N.C their voters are getting apathetic so if you're not going to vote A.N.C make sure you get out there and vote. The number of people who see Brazil as having a positive influence in the world is rising rapidly, according to a BBC World Service poll of 27 countries.

The country is regarded positively by 49%, compared with 40% last year - the largest jump by any of the 16 nations respondents are asked to comment on.

South Africa, host of the 2010 World Cup, posted the second biggest rise.

Germany remained the most popular country, while the image of the US improved for the fourth year in a row.

The UK achieved the second highest positive rating, continuing a steady rise in its fortunes since 2006.

More than 28,000 people across the world were interviewed between December 2010 and February 2011 by international polling firm GlobeScan and the Program on International Policy Attitudes (Pipa) at the University of Maryland.

Female president

"The growing credibility of middle powers is the story this year, especially Brazil and South Africa," said GlobeScan chairman Doug Miller.

"The jump in positive views of Brazil follows the successful democratic transition from President [Luiz Inacio] Lula da Silva to Dilma Rousseff, Brazil's first female president."

Views of the country were predominantly positive in all but two of the 27 countries - China and Germany.

Opinions sought on 16 countries, and the EU Order of popularity (based on results from all 27 countries where the survey was carried out): Germany, UK, Japan, Canada, France, US, Brazil, China, South Africa, India, South Korea, Russia, Israel, Pakistan, North Korea, Iran In China, 45% rated Brazil's influence as positive, but only marginally fewer, 41%, rated it negatively.

In Germany the proportion of those polled who rated Brazil's influence negatively - 32% - slightly exceeded the 31% who rated it positively.

Overall, positive ratings increased for 13 of the 16 nations respondents were asked to rate.

The average ratings of the three most negatively viewed countries - Iran, North Korea and Pakistan - went from bad to worse, however.

In 2007, the US was among the countries with the lowest ratings, but it has climbed quickly up through the rankings since then.

Focusing on polling results from 15 countries where the survey has been carried out every year since 2005, positive views of the US outnumbered negative views in 2010 for the first time, and are now 12 points clear. That leaves the US roughly in the middle of the league table of 16 countries.

The most negative views of the US are found in majority-Muslim countries, though opinions in Indonesia have undergone a marked shift in the last year, with positive views of US influence, at 58%, now more than twice as prevalent as negative views (25%).

In Turkey views remained negative overall, but there was a 22-point increase in positive views (now 35%) and a 21-point drop in negative ratings (now 49%). Motivation.

I've received many accusations that it's my agenda to somehow belittle the plight of murdered people. I entirely reject this. Here was my thought pattern.

I had noticed time and time again the radical right wingers were involved in a campaign of disinformation regarding South Africa. From small things such as saying South Africa was worse off now that it was during apartheid, to making claims such as South Africa has the highest murder rate in the world, to bigger things such as the government was actively trying to kill white people.

These things were used to win over people to their hateful side and validate their hateful actions and words. As a South African when someone says "You see dogs eating babies in the streets everyday" you think "Wait a minute ? Do we ? Why would this guy say that ? What's his agenda ?"

And it started from there. One common theme at the core of the extreme right was the "Boer genocide". It was the common thread that held them all together. So after seeing all these other lies and exaggerations posted by the right one day I just decided to double check the source of this list and its validity. And here we are.

At no time did it occur to me that by exposing a lady lying about peoples deaths and who they were , was I in anyway being callous to the actual people who were murdered. I was never even trying to talk about people who were murdered. That's the whole point. I was trying to talk about using people deaths for an ugly agenda and how it was being done.

It is desensitising people world wide therefore to the plight of the white farmers and in some way in the minds of people even validating it. After my expose on the hyperbolic claims of Adriana Stuijt, she has temporarily (I assume) taken down her bogus list of so called "Over 3700 white farmers murdered since 1994."

She'll no doubt come back with a new "corrected" list, but don't think I won't be on her case to make sure she doesn't make any more "honest mistakes." (Honest my ass.)

This is in no small part to people contacting her and asking her to make corrections including TIA blogger him/herself...who since is putting her head in the sand and since calling me out, refusing to allow me to post any evidence that she was requesting claiming that I was "Ranting and raving" and other ad hom. attacks. I was doing nothing of the sort , I just publishing the links and proof and she censored it. To her defence eventually she admits that I have not lied.

A quick update for those of you who don't know what all the fuss is about.

1) There are not 3700 names in the list, there are closer to 1200. Nobody just bothered to question it. I suppose people just thought much like me "Who would lie about such a horrible thing?" Here.

2) Even then of those +-1200 most are not farmers. Here.

3) Many are not even white. Here.

The international Open Budget Survey for 2010 was released recently. The survey covers 94 countries and is conducted every two years.

It is the world’s only independent and comparative measure of budget transparency and uses criteria mainly developed by the IMF (International Monetary Fund), OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) and INTOSAI (International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions.

The report contains a number of key findings and recommendations, which are too numerous to repeat here. However, the following comments are worth noting:

- The average Open Budget Index (OBI) score for the countries surveyed in 2010 is 42 out of 100. SA received a score of 92

- Only 20 of the 94 countries had OBI scores above 60 and can be characterised as providing their citizens with enough budget data to enable them to develop a comprehensive analysis and understanding of their national budgets.

- About one-third of the countries (33) provide some information, scoring between 41 and 60, though this information is far less than what is required to obtain a clear understanding of the budget and to provide a check on the executive.

- In a plurality of countries (41), the amount of information provided is acutely inadequate. This includes 19 countries in which only minimal information is provided (those with scores between 21 and 40), as well as 22 countries in which little to no budget information is provided (those with scores of 20 or less).

- In 21 of the 22 countries that provide little to no budget information, the Executive’s Budget Proposal - arguably the government’s most important policy document - is not even released.

- Even when budget documents are made public, essential information is often absent. Am I denying there is a farm murder problem ? No. There is a crime problem in this country. As a more reliable (but probably also slightly over stated) source pointed out they count 70 farm murders a year (Also a Boer genocide alarmist, but a seemingly more honest one). That's almost 1 every 5 days. Or to use the famous 50 people are murdered a day in this country , about 1 out of every 250 people murdered is a white farmer. Or 1 out of every 5 whites who are murdered is a farmer. So while there is a crime problem it's certainly not one unique to white farmers. And I fully support the rights of white to stand up for themselves and defend themselves as a group. But surely that doesn't have to happen at the expense of spreading hate through lies and distortions ?

In 2007 I moved to take up work in a foreign country for the third time in my life. Not for any reason other than the joys of exploration and travel. It was only then however upon trying to read some news of "back home" than I came across the writings of "South Africa Sucks."

This was the year of the "eskom crisis" and apparently according to this lot we were on the fast track to Zimbabwe. Strange given that in less than 10 years we had doubled our economy up to that point. Given 120% of more people electricity, housing and running water. Increasing the average income of a South African in real terms more than 200%, and decreased crime by close to 50% since 1994.

Anyway so I starting to read this blog (one I have helped give the boot from the net a few times) and soon was reading about South Africa. It painted such a bleak picture that it inspired me to write this. My first blog post.

Then came the failure for 17 straight years for us to become Zimbabwe 2.0. The continual decrease in violent crime. The recent SAIRR surveys which objectively demonstrated how life in every single was has never been better for South Africans, and I became quite bored of the whole ordeal. It was no longer challenging. But there was one last hurdle to kick down.

I was doing some sniping on the Mybroadband forums. I pop on there once in a while, unleash some facts and watch them squirm. I like to leave a few tell tale markers that it's me to really inspire a reaction. I also like to keep my behaviors immaculate so that each and every time I am banned it's more and more perfectly clear that the reason is that they simply find the truth distasteful. It's a bastion for right winged extremist dogma. Anyway, this was my post regarding the recent Bono/Freedom song fiasco.

I think it's right that they have been ordered to stop singing the song and it has no place in our modern society. I don't ever think Julius Malema cared as much about the song as simply not wanting to be told what to do by white people anyway. But Julius's fragile ego and chip on his shoulder is of little concern to me.

But did the media take this way out of proportion and are people being over sensitive about his comments in context ? Absolutely. What a silly country we are sometimes.

At the same time stop inciting hatred by perpetuating the false notion of "boer genocide". This myth itself has the potential to lead to the ill treatment/murder of black people by "boers." And it is a myth that is very divisive.

Consider studies like this and this found that whites are the ethnic group by far the least affected by violent crime.

Certainly there are not "thousands" of white being murdered each year as some people implied.

There's a lot of misinformation out there about "boer genocide" as well as many very real murders that make the blood boil (such as that of a three year old girl, or old people who are tortured for hours). I know it's a bit grim but for the sake of looking at the issue rationally here are some numbers you can work out by reading the studies. Going by the studies figures, of the 2 million white women in South Africa each year about 56 are murdered while 230 white males out of 2 million are murdered. Only a few of these are "boers".

(The white murder rate for white women is 2.8 per 100 000, and the murder rate for white males is 13 per 100 000.)

So out of the average of 19 000+ murders a year (Although the murder rate is now 16 800 these figures go back to 1994 where it was well above 20 000) 286 happened to white people. If whites were murdered at the average rate, given we are +- 10% of the population, you would expect 1900 white to be murdered a year just to be equal to other ethnic groups. However instead whites are 6.6 times less likely to be murdered than other groups. Even then many white murders are carried out by other whites. This does not make a good case for genocide.

Please feel free to read the studies and come to your own conclusions, but I do think it's important we undertake unpleasant subjects like this with a cool and rational head. If both sides refuse to look closer we allow ourselves to be manipulated by race rhetoric. Traditionally this has lead to genocide. So while it's probably not true there is anything close to genocide in this country, if both sides keep pushing each others buttons it could lead to it.

The failure of exporting the typical, anti PC, white pride ideals into the South African context....part 1.

It's often a sense of amusement to me the types of things I'm called over the interwebs by the extreme right. The most common one being *insert colourful adjective here* Liberal.

The strange thing about it all is that in the global/western context I agree with the far right on so many issues. Do black people/women/gays etc in Northern America/Western Europe really have a strong case of perceiving themselves to be oppressed victims? Hell no ! Never has a group of people bent so far backwards at their own detriment in the name of human equality that westernised white males.

Certainly I'm well documented on my views regarding how bogus and histrionic the feminist movement has been. A few examples I've never mentioned. When the titanic sank, in a time said to happen during rampant class ism and misogyny these were the survivors allocated to the lifeboats :

% of women saved 74%
% of children saved 55%

So much for the self sacrificing nature of women and the selfish nature of men. In fact a 25% of the highest class men survived while 44% of the lowest class women survived. 1200 men volunteered to go down with the ship. For actions like this to the volunteers who put their lives at risk to defend their countries in the world wars, white modern western males are wonderful examples of humanity.

While white people, especially males carry the stigma of being "slavers" oppressors of women etc it's with huge irony. For the first ever group of modern human beings to abolish these acts in favour of democracy and recognition of equality was white western males while these abuses carried on for decades/centuries in other parts of the world.

I've cast my net too wide here to deal with everything with as much detail as I would like, so a few sweeping statements might appear here or there. Basically to me the greatest crime white people have committed is not that we were more oppressive than anyone else throughout history in our colonialism. Given the chance pretty much every group of people carried the same aspirations to conquer and rule. Rather we were simply the most successful. So at least in a historical context to hate white people is to "hate the player, rather than the game."

So indeed , as you can see at least in the broad relative context I feel there is extremely little for white people to apologise for. Africa for one was hardly sitting around in a circle singing Kumbuya when the white settlers came. But this is not to say I defend the actions of our colonial ancestors either, I merely point out it was the way of the world at one time , and at least to my mind things could and probably would have been a lot more brutal had certain other groups such as the Japanese colonised Africa for one rather than Europeans.

Getting back on track, there's plenty to be proud about as a white male. We have basically invented just about everything throughout history with extremely few exceptions of any importance (is there even one ?). Even in the realms of poetry, literature, music, art, architecture, philosophy etc we have no equal as a group. All major steps towards being emancipated beings were taken first by white people, from the enlightenment to the Renaissance. Democracy, reductionism (the scientific method responsible for modern medicine etc), philanthropy , equality etc again were chiefly spread to the world through white people.

Today however it is strangely made out to a rather disturbing degree that white people, especially men, are the bastion of all the worlds evil. This is carried out on such a large passive aggressive scale in the media that I sometimes even ,like my friends on the far right, looks towards conspiracy to understand what agenda lies behind it. The only group around today who is not able to say "I am proud of being what I am" are white males. "White pride" is said to equal some form of racism. While "black pride" and other self aggrandisement is seen as a positive thing.

Now I would love to get into other things such as how extremely arrogant and condescending this ironically is. To applaud black people who have "black pride"and seek to hush up those with "white pride" is no different that berating a beautiful child for vanity and encouraging an ugly one to have more self esteem. The comparison is absolutely exactly the same. It's entirely transparent that anyone who is white and supports this politically correct stance is effectively,even if they don't know it, thinking that white people are in fact so much better they need to be handicapped to allow others a chance to be equal.

Of course it's argued in the politically correct western world that this is not because of intrinsic differences but rather due to historical differences. While the far right argue that its something intrinsic and genetic.

And here is where me and the far right and the politically correct left differ paths altogether. You're both wrong. There is very little significant intrinsic difference between "races" but at least in the west there is these days very little significant historical differences. Enough time has passed since slavery and the civil rights movement for black people to be on equal footing at least to more an extent than they are now in the west. Certainly women have little to no excuse historically, but with a rather significant difference intrinsically that's another matter.

So what is causing the difference in the relative success of groups in the west in my opinion ?

It's actually quite obvious. Victim mentality. "Mental slavery" as Bob said it. Quite ironically the biggest factor holding black people back in the west in politically correct liberalism. I will speak about this briefly before I get into how this relates, or more accurately doesn't relate to South Africa.

In the West the PC doctrine has taught black people specifically that if they are failing in life, it's because others are causing their failure. It's the white man holding you down brother ! But there in fact are very few tangible examples of this happening in the Western world . White prejudice might exist towards blacks to an extent that whites believe blacks commit more crime than whites . But rather than blacks doing some soul searching and realising that this is because they do commit far more crime per capita than whites, it's far more likely in the west that the whites will do the soul searching to no act on their prejudice and treat them, if anything with more tolerance than other groups. Blacks need to shift that onus in the west if they want to get rid of prejudice. It's not for other groups to ignore perceptions based on very real facts, but rather for you to change that reality so that there's no need for the perceptions.

Another thing that comes with the PC liberal doctrine in the west is the neo socialist view of entitlement. The idea that everyone is entitled to equality ESPECIALLY if you are a so called member of an oppressed group. A lovely idea if we're taking about equal rights. But it's often these days believed to mean equal "content" without equal "context". You see rights are a two way street. To be given rights assumes that you give others the same rights. That's the contract. When we do not allow other people equal rights we lose our rights. This is the entire context of the western system of civilisation, the justice system and western ethics. We have a name for this "personal responsibility" and without it "equality" just can't work.

But PC liberal neo socialists have taken this a step further. They're dropped the personal responsibility bit from it. Able bodies people, whether they do their part for society (work effectively and valuably) or not, whether they give others their freedom or abuse them (criminals) etc are all afforded equal rights. This is Utopian and entirely impractical . But more so it is enabling of bad and self harming behaviour.

A person being told that whether or not they are lazy that it's not only their right, but also a state of being forced on them by another group, are very unlikely to take the necessary personal steps to improve their behaviour. A person told that they're just as good as anyone else pretty much no matter what they do, and that they are not responsible for their own failures, actions or position in life, is likely to become criminal. This is all enabling.

Finally to conclude this introduction. In my mind the failures of blacks to compete in the western world with other groups is chiefly a result of society that now not only creates a culture of victimisation, where people feel their fates are tied to the actions of others rather than themselves. And with that culture of victimisation it also creates a feeling of false entitlement that is likely to make people feel everything is owed to them rather than needed to be earned. Above that it also enables this behaviour through political correctness and pandering to black people in a condescending way. All this factors, a result of overtly political correct liberalism have slowed many black people in western countries in doing what is essential to succeed in such a society : TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN LIFE, AND DON'T PUT YOUR FATE IN THE HANDS OF OTHERS.

Now I'll forgive some of you for thinking this blog has been hijacked by some impostor because this is so alien to what I normally write here. But I can only say that indeed this is how I feel in the context of the western world. It shouldn't surprise you. I am against thinking in terms of races. As a black person if any of this is offending you please consider "Am I playing the victim ? And if so why do I feel entitled to do so ? Who is enabling this behaviour ? What does that say about me ? Is this helping me fulfil my potential ? "

I've tried to not be condescending and have treated nobody like an idiot here. I've spoken in broad terms so if you don't fit the description of a black person who has failed to compete in the west this is not about you. What counts as the west even is contextual. I write this post as an introduction to a argument I will be making in part 2. Hopefully when I discuss how this world view fails in the South African context you will be better able to marry with what I am saying here with what I say about South Africa. So yes, same old Rooster. I haven't been lost to any white extremism bollocks. It's always been about libertarianism in the first place this blog. Asking white saffers to stop groaning and take responsibility for their lives and country. I only hope this straw man moniker I've somehow adopted as "a PC liberal" I hope I have dismissed once and for all.

Whites earn 7.7 times more than blacks.

"White per capita personal income in 2008 was 7.7 times higher than that of Africans," the institute said in a statement on its latest South Africa Survey.

In the same year it was 4.5 times higher than that of coloureds, and 1.5 times higher than that of Indians.

In 1970 whites were earning 15 times as much as blacks. It has since fallen from this peak.

In 1917 white income was 11 times higher than that of blacks.

The data, from the Institute for Futures Research at the University of Stellenbosch, shows the ratio of white income to coloured income is the same as it was in 1917.

The per capita income of Indians and coloured people was the same in 1917.

However, since then Indian income has grown at a higher rate than that of any other race group.

"‘These trends are confirmed by data we have from other sources in the Survey," said Lucy Holborn of the institute's research department.

At constant 2000 prices, between 1993 and 2008 white per capita income rose from R46,486 to R75,297.

That of Indians rose from R19,537 to R51,457. Coloured people went from R12,911 to R16,567. Income for blacks rose from R5073 to R9790.

"While average incomes still reflect the disparities between race groups that existed during apartheid and before, we are beginning to see a narrowing of these differences," said Holborn.

Is your "suffering" real ?

I've had it with white folk who moan about affirmative action, BEE and how government policies are impoverishing white people.

According to an article in Rapport written by Frans Cronje of the South African Institute of Race Relations - a leading research organisation that is wholly independent of government and all political parties - unemployment among whites is around five percent. Contrast this with the national average of just over 23 percent or that of black people who suffer a jobless rate of 28 percent (or the USA's of almost 10 percent, or Ireland's of around 14 percent, or the UK at about eight percent, etc.).

Black South Africans are earning around 235 percent more in real terms than they did in 1996, but did this wealth come at the expense of white South Africans as many are claiming? Today, white South Africans earn about 217 percent more than they did in 1996, in spite of the fact that this growth is coming off a much higher base.

Today, white South Africans earn, on average, roughly six times more than black South Africans. Roughly 13 percent of adults in South Africa are white, but they account for more than 70 percent of those who earn more than R500 000 per year.

The percentage of poor white South Africans has doubled since 1994 - it now stands at 3.6 percent - but compare that to the 49 percent of black South Africans who are poor and you see where I'm going with this.

White South Africans, on average, have vastly higher incomes and living standards than black South Africans. White people have not become poorer since the advent of democracy; in fact, they're much wealthier and have more chance of finding employment than, say, the average New Zealander.

Why do people feel oppressed when clearly they're not? Why do people perceive their lot as so terrible when others have it so much worse?

I'm sick of going to a braai, eating thick steaks and drinking fine wine, and having to hear how tough "we" have it and, oh ja, check out this larney new BlackBerry.
